We have a 1998 Ford Taurus that has the radio in an oval bezel that has the heater controls also on it.

If this is like your vehicle, then when you remove the radio using two coat hangers shaped like a 'C' then you can see where the electrical connections go for the fan and the heater setting.

The radio in our 1998 Ford Taurus started to malfunction with the volume level not being adjustable.

After taking the radio out, and putting it back in, a week later the problem went away, mysteriously, and to my surprise.

Hope this helps.

2000 ford taurus heater not working. What can be wrong?

It sounds very much like the heater control door (inside the heater box) is sticking in one position or the other. It's intended to direct air through either the AC's evaporator or the heater core, depending upon whether you want heat or cooling.

Assuming (highly likely) that the control door is vacuum-operated, you may have a vacuum leak anywhere from the engine to the heater box inside the passenger compartment, via the heater control unit.

2000 Ford Taurus-- Heater not working.

what you need to do is check that your relays are OK
in some cars you cannot see through the relay like a fuse
the only way to check if it is the relays is by replacing them
if this dose not work and you have a electronic climate control system your controm box may be burnt out this will need replacing
