The gas, speedometer, temperature gauges are not working. In the past when this has happened I would open the hood and jingle the battery cable and the problem would correct itself. Well now all of the gauges are not working again so my brother changed the battery cables, and I still don't have the use of my gauges.

SOURCE: hood release cable is broken

Is there any part of the cable inside the cabin that you can pull with a pair of pliers? I suggest that you try that. You may need to disassemble it from the pull handle to make that work.

Check fuse No. 9 (10A) in the driver's side kick panel fuse box. But if your other gauges are working (speedometer, tachometer, low oil light, etc.) then it is possible that when you jumped the battery you inadvertently reversed the cables and created a reverse voltage. This will impact some of the vehicle electronics. If you feel this might be the case, you should test the cooling system temperature sender to see if it failed. If it did, you should suspect that the fuel gauge drive circuit located in the instrument cluster is also failed.

Open your hood and look for the fuse and relay center just above the battery . open the cover and look for a fuse called IOD usually towards the top of the block , they are labeled . Remove the IOD fuse for 20 seconds and then reinsert . The BCM becomes hung and this will reset it in a lot of cases . Let us know how it works out Tim

1998 Buick Park Ave Speedometer stopped working.

Found the problem with the speedometer on my Buick. When you use the magnet to fix the gas gauge, will can and may affect your speedo. So use the magnet trick on it as well. Appears that the manufacturer didn't think about the needles being able to swing past the magnet they have set up in the gauges. Should have put a stop pin on the gauges.
