Dash lights read service engine soon check gauges

the lamp means 2 things CEL (SES/MIL)
it means there is a serious problem.
it means get car service
if frisky? it means DIY scan the pCM and check all fuses.
SES lamp is what some makers of cars call the CEL
it means exactly the same thing.
lost the glove box free users guide it tells you all this.
not many 89 cars on the road now, most are dead
and repairs exceed its value (won't stop me but, most end here)

89 Chevy Cheyenne C1500 pickup truck,.
no engine told. generation 4 truck.
4 engines then, 4.3v6,5.0v8,5.7v8 , 6.2Ldiesel-v8

finding 1989 manuals is hard, only paper manuals then no PDF or others doing horrible scans later,
the problem is this cars ECU/ECM/PCM is chevy OBD1 system and there are flash codes (cel /ses ) blink codes for error huge.
if the CEL glows it means 99% of time a major error
like dead sensor , 100% dead,
4.3L has distributor and horrors of TB throttle body injection TBI. not MPI we have now.
5.0 same thing
5.7 -same
diesel ? ask. rare option. for sure running at all.

gasoline engine surge has many causes
i will list some only
spark bad.
fuel injectors messed up. 2 there are.
fuel pressure out of spec, FPR bad.

Why is my 2004 Ford Freestar 4.2 running so rough?

The code P2196 indicates that there is too much fuel in relation to the oxygen in your vehicle, or that the oxygen sensor is faulty and reading an incorrect air/fuel ratio, thats your engine is running rough.
Engine code P0113 could be caused by a number of things, including a bad sensor or faulty wiring.
This trouble code points to the oxygen sensor, it's natural to want to replace it and move on. However, you must first inspect the wiring and the sensor to ensure.

2000 grand am gt. Check engine light is off but the Service engine soon light is on. There are no error codes. I have already changed the oil and reset the oil light.

Service engine soon ? Do you mean SERVICE VEHICLE SOON Indicator
The amber SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator is an alert to the driver whenever there are specific current codes stored in the BCM or in the event of a loss of Class 2 serial data.

If your vehicle has a check engine light ,it doesn't have service engine soon .One or the other .

P0627 on a ford ranger tdci canot find those modules and relays to check

n the event of fuel pump "A" control circuit fault, a trouble code will be stored and a service engine soon lamp will be illuminated. Some models require multiple drive cycles (as many as 8) with a failure in order for the service engine soon lamp to be illuminated and others will activate it on the initial failure. The "A" refers to more of an area of malfunction as opposed to a particular circuit or component.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include a stored trouble code, an illuminated fuel cap malfunction lamp, and possibly an illuminated service engine soon lamp. If this code is stored, and a service engine soon lamp has not yet been illuminated, the code may be shown as pending.

Common Causes

The most likely cause of this code being stored is a defective fuel pump or relay. Most fuel pump control circuits are integrated into the PCM. Other causes may include corroded, open, or shorted wiring or connectors in the CAN Bus harness, a loose control module ground strap or broken ground wire, the CAN bus may also be defective

How do I get the service engine soon light to go out

The "Service Engine Soon" comes on when the ECM receives information from the engines sensors that exceeds normal acceptable operating parameters. The ECM will store a code (or codes) indicating which system(s) are out of tolerance and light the "Service Engine Soon" lamp. The technician will read the codes, diagnose and repair the condition(s), and reset the "Service Engine Soon" lamp. The lamp does NOT go out on its own (in most cases), once repairs are made. There is a scan tool that is used to clear the stored codes that allows the lamp to go out. It is therefore possible that you may already have fixed the condition that set your light to on. Or not. The whole purpose of the lamp was to help avoid the kind of "hit and miss" repair methodology that you have employed so far. Many feel the need to try this as they fear the costs of a professional mechanic reading the codes and the cost of repairs. Fortunately, there are less costly options available. Many of the large auto parts chains will read the "Service Engine Soon" codes for you at no cost. They will tell you what codes are present and you can decide if you (or someone you know) can perform repairs or if you need a pro to check things out. They do NOT, normally, perform resets of the lamp as this has potential liability issues for them. If you need the lamp reset after repairs are made, you have two options; pay the pro, or buy a scan tool that has the ability to reset the light. Not all do. The cheaper units are only code READERS. Be careful when you buy. But if you watch for sales, you can usually get a low-cost scan tools that can read and reset codes for around $40.00. Good luck.

What do dashboard lights mean

you meant warning lamps. right? not parking lamps.
every year they add more. my newer car has like 100.
each maker uses different lamps. (icons.)
making generic answers impossible ,except the obvious.
CEL , check engine light, or SES. service engine soon.
Oil lamp... low oil pressure do not run engine.
charge lamp, battery will die soon (go discharged and car stalls)

you lost the operators guide, all lamps are explained in every car made in the glove box manual.
get one.

or use this random page.

this is a grand attempt at the generic, its very good.

My 1997 Dodge mini van will not start. When I do

The flashing check engine light would mean that the engine is misfiring, If you have a scanner, use it on the diagnostic port of the engine to check for the error code to get which cylinder is misfiring and if there are other errors that needs to be checked.

Service engine light is on and the ESB light was on

OK!... I assume you mean the ESC light... right? Based on my experience, what you have is a malfunctioning BRAKE LAMP SWITCH... replace it and see if that fixes your problem. Hope this is helpful (since you didn't scan the 'CHECK ENGINE' light issue).Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. If, IN FACT, you have a 'BRAKE LAMP SWITCH' code, then you've found the problem and the solution.
