I recently had the original battery on my 2003 PT Cruiser GT finally go bad and I replaced it. In the process of it dying (and me having to jump it a couple times before I could get to the store to buy a new one), I lost my interior lights, the memory on the trip odometer, my power locks, my remote key fob capability, my radio/CD player, and the odometer display showed a "NO FUSE" message alternating with the overall mileage reading. http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gifThe car still ran fine, but it was obvious I had blown a fuse or fuses.

I did some checking online to see if anyone had experienced this set of outages before (and the "NO FUSE" message) and there were several references to the IOD fuse, but no clear definitive answer on a) what it truly affected and b) how to replace it (since it's in a protective clip you pull up). Since I just did that and everything is restored, thought I'd share the info for those who might lose power to the above items and keep them from wasting a lot of money at the dealer for a simple repair. Here's the scoop:

1) I bought a fuse tester/puller at a local auto parts store, which enabled me to individually pull all the fuses that were labled as having anything to do with the interior lights, radio, or locks. This included those in the fuse box by the driver's left knee inside the car and a 40 amp fuse up in the power distribution box under the hood. All checked out good, so I strongly suspected the IOD was the culprit.

2) I never did find anything in the manual or online that said exactly what that fuse affects, other than it is used during initial transport from the factory to dealers to minimize the drain on the battery by pulling it up. To reiterate what I mentioned at the beginning of this book, I know it affects at least the following systems:

- Interior dome/reading lights (the dash lights, head- and tail-lights still work)
- Power locks (both the door switches and the remote fob capability)
- Radio/CD/Cassette player (though the unit will still show trim lighting)
- The trip odometer memory (which would reset each time the car was shut down)

3) I crossed my fingers that the IOD fuse was the cause, as I really didn't want to take it to the shop and pay big bucks. The yellow 20-amp IOD fuse is in the fuse box (power distribution center) under the hood and just behind the air filter housing. It stands out because it is encased in a protective clip that allows you to pull it up to break the circuit, but leave it in place for transport and not get lost. The challenge is getting it out of that clip. To make it a bit easier to access, I removed the housing top to the air filter, which is simple (disengage the clips on the left side and the right front side, and then the screw holding the retaining ring on the rubber hose on the back left side).

4) I found that taking a very small, thin screwdriver that I use for glasses screws worked well. You'll see a small rectangle opening in the top (where you'll be able to read the "20" on the fuse). I think a small curved tip screwdriver would work, too. Take the tip of your screwdriver and insert it in the opening, with the pressure up under the left side of the opening (the top is actually hinged, with the left side being where it clips down in place and the plastic hinges on the right). It takes a little effort, and I used my left hand to try and help unclip the left side of the clip while I applied the out/lifting pressure with the screwdriver. After a while I got it, and the top opened up to allow access to the fuse.

5) Took out the fuse, tested it--sure enough, it was bad. Popped in a new yellow 20 amp mini fuse, closed the top of the clip, reinserted the fuse into the fuse box by gently pushing down, and then checked things in the car. Voila! I had everything restored. http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/images/smilies/1st.gifYeah, baby! That was probably $100+ saved and it only cost me some time and one little fuse.

I know this was long, but hopefully it will help someone who is trying to figure out what the heck is going on with their electrical stuff. I suspect this probably happens fairly often to folks and they just end up bringing the car in, especially when they've check all the other fuses properly labled for those accessories. Thanks much, and now it's time to get back to cruisin' in my PT GT!

Were is the fuse for the interior lights of an 2001 Lincoln continental?

All interior light's not working ? Instrument cluster , dome light's , switch light , instrument panel , map ,reading lamps etc...... Probably not a fuse problem , more then likely the LCM - lighting control module . Do you know anything about automotive electronics ? Control modules ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's ?
Illuminated Entry The illuminated entry system:
  • is controlled by the lighting control module.
  • provides courtesy lighting upon entry to and exit from the vehicle.
The keyless entry keypad illuminates when any keyless entry keypad button is pressed, regardless of the ignition switch position. The keyless entry keypad remains illuminated for five seconds after a handle is raised or for five seconds following the last keypad button pressed. Courtesy lamps will be illuminated for 25 (±1) seconds which includes a theater lighting ramp-up time (two seconds). This time interval does not include the theater lighting ramp-down time. Courtesy lamps will be turned off before the 25 (±1)-second timeout if the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or ACC position. NOTE: When the illuminated entry feature is activated by using the keyless entry remote transmitter, the keyless entry keypad does NOT illuminate. The illuminated entry system has the following additions to accommodate the keyless entry system:
  • Pressing any button on the keyless entry keypad or pressing the UNLOCK button on the keyless entry remote transmitter will activate the illuminated entry system (with theater ramp-up). When the driver door module detects a button press, it sends a signal on the J1850 communication network activating the courtesy lamps. The keypad will remain illuminated for five seconds following the illuminated entry ON signal transition or for five seconds following the last keypad button press.
  • If the keyless entry keypad 7/8 and 9/0 buttons are pressed concurrently (to lock the doors) or the LOCK button on the keyless entry remote transmitter is pressed:
    • the lighting control module will turn off the lamps by sensing the all doors lock signal.
    • the driver door module will also turn OFF the keyless entry keypad illumination when the last two keyless entry keypad buttons are pressed concurrently.
    • Lamps, Courtesy Courtesy lamps can be turned on by using the panel dim switch located on the headlamp switch assembly or by opening any door. A theater lighting feature gradually increases or decreases the light intensity when switched by opening or closing a door. Courtesy lamps (controlled by the lighting control module) are activated by using the dome lamp switch (instant ON/OFF response) or when a door is ajar. The following lamps illuminate for courtesy lighting:
      • instrument panel courtesy lamps
      • front map lamps
      • rear reading lamps
      • Inspection and Verification
        1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the courtesy and demand lamps to duplicate the condition.
        1. Inspect to determine if one of the following electrical concerns apply:

          VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical
          • Damaged lamps

        1. If inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily serviced, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
        1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to perform Data Link Diagnostics Test. If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the lighting control module, go to Pinpoint Test AA . If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the driver door module, go to Pinpoint Test AB . If the Data Link Diagnostic test is passed for the lighting control module and driver door module, retrieve continuous DTCs and execute self test diagnostics for the suspect module(s).
        1. If self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, GO to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
        1. If DTCs are retrieved for the lighting control module, go to the Lighting Control Module (LCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnosis. If DTCs are retrieved for the driver door module, go to the Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
        1. If the lighting control module cannot be accessed by the NGS tester, go to Pinpoint Test AA . If the driver door module cannot be accessed by the NGS tester, go to Pinpoint Test AB .
Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS®) 001-00001 may also be used to diagnose this system.

Which fuse powers the power door locks on a 2012 equinox? None of the doors lock or unlock with the fob, battery ok

Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (with Accessory 2 Way Remote)
Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (without Accessory 2 Way remote)

The keyless entry system is a vehicle entry device. The keyless entry system is used in conjunction with the body control module (BCM) to remotely activate certain vehicle features. Keyless entry will lock/unlock the doors/liftgate when a corresponding button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed. This is accomplished by the transmitter sending a radio frequency to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). The RCDLR interprets the signal and activates the requested function via a serial data message to the BCM. A low transmitter or vehicle battery or radio frequency (RF) interference from aftermarket devices, such as 2-way radios, power inverters, computers, etc., may cause a system malfunction. High RF traffic areas may also cause interference that could lead to a malfunction. Keyless entry allows you to operate the following components:
• Door locks
• Liftgate lock
• Vehicle locator/Panic alarm
• Illuminated entry lamps
• Remote vehicle start
The keyless entry system has the following components:
• Keyless entry transmitters
• Keyless entry antenna
• 2 Way Advanced Remote Start RCDLR
• BCM

Your best bet , take it to a GM dealer .

Where is BCM located on 2002 PT Cruiser locks working even when car is not on have been told to check BCM don't know where to find it

I don't find a body control module for your car, but according to the wiring diagram the door locks are controlled by a keyless entry module which is located on top of the dash behind the ac vents.
There are three fuses that power the module.
Check with your dealer for more details.

2008 HHR Remote Starter not working

Is this an issue with all 2008 HHR remotes??? Highly doubtful , probably the vehicles keyless entry system . Taking the vehicle to a qualified repair shop an having the keyless entry system checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . Do you know what a DTC is ?
The keyless entry system is a vehicle entry device. The keyless entry system is used in conjunction with the body control module (BCM) to remotely activate certain vehicle features. Keyless entry will lock/unlock the doors, or release the rear compartment lid when a corresponding button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed. This is accomplished by the transmitter sending a radio frequency to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). Key Pad Entry does not work

does the key pad light when you press a button at night? If yes, the fuse is ok.
Do you have the plastic card with the permanent code in your owner manual packet? If yes, tryit.
report back.

Keyless Entry The keyless entry keypad is hardwired to the GEM. The GEM interprets the inputs from the keyless entry keypad and then controls the associated operation. The keyless entry keypad will be illuminated for five seconds when any button is pressed. Additionally, it will request the illuminated entry feature to turn the courtesy lamps on. If a lock all doors code is entered, the illumination will turn off, as well as request the illuminated entry feature to turn off the courtesy lamps. When pressed, the keyless entry keypad supplies the ground signal to the GEM or the GEM receives a signal from the keyless entry remote transmitter. Then the GEM outputs a ground signal to the appropriate lock or unlock relay which supplies the power to the actuator to lock or unlocks all doors, including the luggage compartment. The keyless entry remote transmitter also unlocks the liftgate or activates the panic alarm by sending a signal to the GEM.
