Really tough to do on the net but first we need to know about any codes...

Hold speed control OFF button, and turn ignition switch to RUN position. CRUISE indicator should flash once to indicate successful entry into self-diagnostic mode. If CRUISE indicator does not flash, start procedure over. If CRUISE indicator still does not flash, repair system by symptom there might be some switch concern

If CRUISE CONTROL indicator flashes once followed by 5 additional flashes, replace speed control servo/actuator.

Release speed control OFF button. Within 5 seconds in entering self-diagnostics, press speed control ON button. Press remaining speed control buttons in the following sequence; ON, RES, COAST and SET/ACCEL.

As each button is pressed, CRUISE indicator will flash.

Wait until indicator light goes out, then press next button. After sequence has been completed, indicator light will flash to indicate test passed or failed. With the codes we can then better diagnose your concern

Immediately after static test has passed, actuator performs a dynamic test by automatically operating throttle .04-.40" (1-10 mm). Observe throttle movement to witness any sticking in cable or linkage. Ensure throttle returns properly. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If self-diagnostics do not pinpoint fault there is more we can do but tough over the net

This was great! I was trying to figure out how to fix my cruise control, and this confirmed what I was afraid of. I held OFF while turning on the truck... flash. Hit ON... flash. Hit the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel... nothing. Guess I'm off to see if this is something I can replace myself or not... the airbag is holding me back from taking out the screws on the steering wheel to get in there.

Did all the the button tests above and all switches made the Cruise indicator light up once, except the last SET/ACCEL switch .Only after a second the Cruise flashed 3 times. What dose this mean?

  • Anonymous Apr 04, 2011

I got the first flash, but did not get a flash when the on button was push. what does this mean? thank you

Brake lights, cruise control and horn all stopped working at the same time. i also just got my alternator replaced. can anyone possibly help me, or have had the same problem?

The brake switch and brake lights as well as the horn are supplied voltage thru the 15 amp STOP fuse located in the underhood fuse/relay box. No fuse is listed for the cruise control system but the signal for the brake lights is supplied to the PCM. If it is not getting a valid signal from brake switches then it may well disable operation of the cruise control system due to insufficient information and safety. Check that fuse first off. In the center section of the underhood fuse box is a column of six fuses. Top of column wil be brown 7.5A fuse, next down will be yellow 10A fuse, next will be blue 15A fuse (this is the one you are looking at), next down will be either blue or yellow, next is brown and last is blue.

Crusie control does not work on 2011 gmc sierra 1500 and I've already replaced the switch?

If the switch is replaced, then it can be wiring issue or faulty cruise control board. But as the switch is replaced, get the voltage at the switch tested to confirm the switch is actually receiving voltage. If no voltage received at switch power supply wire then ,apply external 12 volt power to the cruise control switch wire and then see if cruise control comes ON.If yes, then you know wiring is issue.

Need to know what fuse to replace for cruise control on 2004 mazda tribute

The first things to check is make sure all your fuses are good a teslight is a great tool for this, check out www.testlight.com. after checking fuses next is to open the hood and check the connection to cruise head andd then make sure the cable from the cruise to throtlebody is connected, this is where i would start,if the fuses are good and the connection is good and the unit is connected to throtle linkage then i would check the switch and the cruise stop switch which is located on the brake pedal braket and sometimes runs off brake light switch, hope this helps. good luck.

My cruise control is not working, no lights come on and I've checked all fuses with a meter and all check good, I can't put it in gear without pushing brake so shift interlock is good, all connections...

If the CHML ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) is working correctly, the next thing to check is the Cruise Control Deactivation switch on the brake pedal.
6d7cc37.jpg

This is different than the Brake Pedal Position ( BPP ) Switch which is for the stop lamps, and the shift interlock.

The Cruise Control deactivation switch, and the on / set switch are the only external inputs to the Cruise Control, the PCM uses the VSS ( Vehicle Speed Sensor ) to read, set and adjust the speed ( no more vacuum items on the 04+ MY trucks )

Cruise control suddenly stopped working, what should I look for first

Hello, first check fuses. You probably did that already. The next most likely cause is a vacuum hose problem.

03 chevy z71 cruise contol problem

There are a few things you can try. First, check your
brake lights, if they do not work the problem may be
in the stoplight sw circuit. Also there are 3 fuses you
can check, 1 is a 25amp in the fuse block under the
hood the next 2 are in the fuse block under the dash.
One is the 15amp stoplight fuse and the other is a
10amp turn sig fuse. These fuses are either directly
or indirectly related to the cruise ctrl. Next check the
cruise switchs accel/coast set/resume if either sw.
was sticking in any posistion for 90 seconds or more,
the cruise ctrl. will shut down. There are trouble codes that will set but they won't trip the check engine light. You'll need an obdII scanner to recover
them from the memory. If you don't have one, go to
autozone/napa or advance auto parts they will scan it
free. The codes of interest are po571 stoplight switch
po567 and po568 the cruise ctrl switch's. And any
other codes related to the torque converter clutch -
the speed sensor - throttle actuator control.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

MY 1989 Honda Accord had cruise control until it stopped working. I checked the Fuse. Its good, I replaced the control switch on the steering wheel. Didn't fix the problem. Then replaced the power button...

Look for the obvious. Check for the cable that goes to the throttle to see if it came off or broke. Also look for any leaks in the vacuum system. A small leak will cause it not to work. The unit may be engaging but with one of these problems, it just won't work.

Good Luck
