I have a 2008 pt cruiser. The engine light is on and Auto Zone did the test and said it was the crankshaft sensor. Where is this located? Would this cause my car to shake alot and then have problems starting.
My PT cruiser is a couple of years older, but I had the same problem. Drove fine, but start-up was erratic for several weeks. By the time AAA arrived, it usually was working fine. But when it suddenly started "struggling for power on the freeway and further along on the same trip, lurching (on a city avenue) I drove straight to my mechanic. It WAS the same sensor . . . and car has been driving perfectly ever since he changed it.
Yes it could cause this. The Auto Zone guys should be able to print you instructions for changing it. Did they check, or even offer to check? I do at MY AZ. Check near the crank pulley and see if it is there.

mcdevito75 here, Yes a crankshaft sensor could cause your mentioned problems, the sensor should be located near the Harmonic balancer, you may need a special tool to remove it and if I'm not mistaken the new sensor thakes an adjustment, Have auto zone change this sensor for you, even if you succeed, how often will you change this sensor.
