This is for manual heater system. If you have electronic (digital display) you don't have one. Instead you have a blower motor speed controller.

here is info

Control System Outputs—Manual A/C
Blower Motor Switch Resistor
The heater blower motor switch resistor has the following features:

  • The assembly is located in the engine compartment on the evaporator housing toward the center of the vehicle.
  • Three resistor elements are mounted on the resistor board to provide four blower motor speeds.
  • Depending on the heater blower motor switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the A/C blower motor circuit to decrease or increase A/C blower motor speed.
  • An overheating protective device (thermal limiter) will open the resistor coil when the temperature reaches 121°C (250°F) interrupting the blower motor operation in all speeds except HI.
  • The thermal limiter cannot be reset and is not serviceable.

SOURCE: locating heater blower motor resistor

the resistor is behind your glove box. open the box and push in the sides to release it and let it hang down...the resistor is right there. I didn't try to replace it, a friend did it, but the part was under $20.

SOURCE: Location of blower motor switch resistor on 2004 Grand Marquis

The blower speed controller is located under the hood on the right or passenger side on the heater housing just to the side of the heater hoses near the very back of the right cylinder head.
Yes that would cause the concern you are having.

2002 MERCURY GRAN MARQUIS NO LOW AC BLOWER

More often than not, the Blower Motor Resistor would be at fault. It controls the speed of the Blower Motor by varying its speed revolutions. The Blower Motor Resistor is located under the hood under the heater hoses. You can purchase one from E-bay, Amazon, or check your local Auto Parts store(try to get the best price). To get an idea of where the Blower Motor Resistor is situated and what it would take to replace it, go to www.youtube.com. Type ......how to replace blower motor resistor ford crown vic.... and the video will pop up. There should be another video under it with the caption.....2003 ford crown
Victoria blower motor resistor swap... Watch both videos as they contain two different approaches in replacing the unit.

Where to locate a/c blower resister in a 2004 grand marquis

  • For this a 2004 Grand Marquis the blower motor resistor is located on the bottom of the heater/AC housing on the passenger side of the car under the instrument panel. You need to remove the glovebox off from the instrument panel to replace it.
  • To change it follow these steps.
  1. Remove the neg battery cable from the battery.
  2. Wait 5 minutes before moving on. This is important to wait or you risk the air bags accidentally deploying.
  3. Remove the glovebox from the instrument panel.
  4. Pull out the lock on the blower motor resistor wire harness connector to unlock the connector latch.
  5. Depress the latch on the connector and unplug the connector from the resistor.
  6. Now remove the two screws holding the resistor in place.
  7. Now remove the resistor.
  8. Revers steps to install new on.
  9. hope this helps.

Blower stopped working on my 2001 Mercury Grand marquis

Check the fuse first. If the fuse is good then either the blower motor or the blower motor resistor pack is defective. Check the blower motor by applying 12 volts directly to the motor. If it runs it is good and most likely the resistor pack is bad and needs replacing. it can also be the blower motor speed control but rarely do they go bad.

Need to change fan motor control switch? Only works on high setting.

this problem is not caused by the switch, it is caused by a defective blower motor speed control resistor, the resistor is located near the blower motor.

Blower for heater on a 2000 mercury marquis works some days and doesn't some days,,,why and where do you locate a resistor?

The resistor has two screws holding it onto the plastic case. The same case that houses the blower motor. The blower cools the resistor while its running.
