Look under the dash on the right hand side, behind the glove box. If yours is like F150 you'll find the wire harness for the resistor and can follow it to the resistor pack and fan motor. I found it much easier to use a small mirror to see the screws and removal was pretty simple. Note: you may want to replace the resistor wire harness also, there common to get damaged due to heat from the currant. I think they go for around $45.00 and the resistor is $9.00 at most auto parts store. Good luck and keep em posted.

2000 Chevrolet Impala blower motor work from 1-4 but not on 5th speed why?

The blower motor relay is energized when the Blower Motor Control is set to the High position. This removes the blower motor resistors from the circuit and battery voltage is then applied directly from the HVAC BLO fuse (RH IP Accessory Wiring Junction Block) to the blower motor though the relay switch contacts. The blower motor then runs at high speed.

HVAC Blower Controls Circuit Description
The blower motor is a variable speed motor. The motor operates at a higher rate when voltage is increased to the maximum level.
The blower motor resistors reduce the voltage supplied from the A/C FAN fuse (LH IP Accessory Wiring Junction Block) when the blower control is set at low and medium speeds (speeds 1-4).

My blower in a 2000 Explorer will only operate on high speed. Could this be the resister? If so where is it located?

It is indeed a defective Blower Motor Resistor Pack. Look at the HVAC plenum on the PS firewall. The blower resistor is in the plenum right next to the blower motor. It is held in by 2 screws and has a 4-wire connector. This link may help you find it. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216963

Heater fan only works on fastest speed

Your blower motor resistor has gone bad, it should be located next to your blower motor in the car, held in place with a couple of screws, remove it and replace it. The resistor is responsible for making the blower motor run at slower speeds than high or (4). Let me know if this helps.
