I bought a 98 Isuzu Hombre, motor stopped running going down highway. I tore it down and put a new timing chain tensioner and gears. Turned over with starter off and on for 3 minutes. It finally started I killed and put it back together, hasn't cranked since. Took to several shops and finally one told me it didn't have enough compression. Bought a used low mileage motor (2.2) I heard it run and helped the guy pull it. Put motor in and it won't crank. Put new fuel pump, checked pressure 52 lbs. If you squirt starter fluid or put gas in throttle body, it will crank and run until that gas is burned up.This has been going on for 3 years, I had it towed to local chevy dealer and they called and said that there diagnostic equipment would not work on this old of truck.

98 isuzu hambre 2.2 how to tell if timing chain is broke

The Isuzu, S10, is better name,...the wiki , is scary if read on this car.
sure the cam stops turning, and engine dies.
the GM 2.2L engine is OHV, chain,
the Suzuki 2.2L DOHC is belt drive !!! not chain.
The engine lost all spark can be cam dead.
remove the CMP cam sensor crank engine see it dead?
wont turn or is jumping oddly>? (slack chain)

the online FSM shows this as GM engine,
lost spark works like this.
if sparks gone.
the CMP and CKP sensors feed the PCm
the PCM then fires the ICM driver ignitors
to 2 coils
2 wasted spark coils.
1-4
2-3
do not mix the 4 HV wires or engine will not run
the firing order is PCM hard coded
to 1,3,4,2.
but fires them in PAIRS, called wasted spark.

short answer
engine will not start but cranks
spark gone all 4
spark timing all wrong (a timing light sees this easy)
look at cam, see it not turn
look at cam ,see it acts odd, jumping crazy.

Cant put my 98 Hombre in gear.

There are 4 parts to this system. First is the clutch master cylinder, second is the slave cylinder, third is the clutch throwout bearing, and last is the clutch pressure plate. These are all the parts that can be the issue. The master cylinder is the part that pumps the fluid to the slave cylinder, which pushes on the linkage to the throwout bearing, which pushes on the fingers on the clutch pressure plate, releasing the clutch. If you drained the fluid out, first you need to make sure that all the AIR is out of the system. It's just like brakes, it will not pump if it has air in it. The hydraulic portion of the system rarely gives problems, so here's a question. How old is the clutch in your truck? If it's over 100,000 mi, then you should start suspecting the throwout bearing. Did the truck make any groaning noises when you pressed the clutch recently, and then perhaps it stopped on its own? These are signs of throwout bearings going out. Here's the bit of troubleshooting that you need. go under your truck, and find where the slave cylinder attaches and pushes on the linkage that goes into the bell housing on the transmission. Feel this linkage; it should have very limited to no movement. if it moves significantly, then your throwout bearing went out, and you will need to replace your clutch and throwout bearing. If not, then it's the hydraulic portion of the brakes, and you'll have to troubleshoot between air in the system, master cylinder failure, or slave cylinder failure.

I HAVE 1996 ISUZU . tIMING CHAIN BROKE. i AM REPLACING CHAIN AND GEARS. REPAIR BOOK SAYS TO ALIGN MARKS ON GEARS WITH TENSIONER MARKS. DO I ALSO HAVE TO MAKE SURE #1 PISTON IS ON COMPRESSION STROKE OR NOT?

Yes be sure the number one piston is at TDC firing stroke or compresson stroke and line up the timing mark pointer is pointed at exactly zero. One more thing when aligning the camshaft sprocket or sprockets be sure that when you are rotating the sprocket for the cam it is rotating in the correct direction and also be sure you observe the intake valve for number one shutting as you bring the marks up to alignment points, the intake valve and the exhaust valve should be shut when the marks line up if not you could have the cam sprocket off 180 degrees, get it right the first time or you may damage a valve trying to start.

Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.

My 4.7 2002 dodge 1500 will not start

i purchased a new timing chain set and the cam pickup was bad on the new cam gear and we had a no start problem. i took the valve covers back off put the old gear on the cam and it started. BUT be careful if u do that you have to wedge the timing chains apart before you remove that gear so the hyd adjusters do not over expand. 4.7 dodge engines **** BIg they made them trying to save gas but the parts and repair over-ride any gas saving i got.
