SOURCE: Opening driver's door does not light interior lights
hi
I have a 1993 dodge intrepid so i think this might work on yours too.
i had the exact same prob nothing different.
yes your correct, its the driver door switch. in most cars it looks like a stick that goes in and out but want your looking for is a black usually round with a tiny tip at the end. when your open the drivers side door its under the lock hinge. i suppose its the only black round plastic thing protuding outside that has two screws at both ends, up and down.
in most cases id say its worn out and its easy to replace just unscrew it, and carefully remove it, without pulling it too hard, or the fuse wires will drop inside the fram. (speaking from exprerience) but it takes time and patience plus slim fingers and a few stick or twizers to get it back out. if you do drop it.
let me know if this helps. it took me a while to solve this problem. at first youd think it just need a little grease to get it loosend but it must be worn out.
thanks

SOURCE: Interior lights stay on when running, or for 15
Need to find a good repair shop and have them check the body computer for code's.The light's are turned off and on by the body computer.could be a faulty door switch but all those perimeter's are shown on the scanner.
Testimonial: "Thank you! Good advice! I've been looking for the delay device, thinking it may be faulty (older methidology)."
SOURCE: interior lights won't shut off, even after all
it might have a door ajar switch always open, or might have a headlamp switch problem, inspect headlamp switch and interior lamp switch next to it, might be on the on position
SOURCE: interior light stay on with doors closed and
Just one other thing to consider. Dodge has had a recall on these Durangos due to a bad instrument cluster. The problems associated with this are interior lights which will not go out, unless as you did, you remove the bulbs or the fuse(s). Other electrical anomalys may occur. Mine manifested beginning with the same interior light problem and then a constant drain on the battery which, during the winter, required me to get as many as 15 jumps. Turned out to be a bad instrument cluster. The local dealership replaced it once but it reared its ugly head again several months later during the following winter. It was replaced again and the car has been problem free, (knock on wood), for the past 6 months. Again, there is a recall on these clusters and both replacements on my vehicle were covered entirely parts and labor under the recall. Hope this helps.
