Hard shifting is sometimes caused by a bad shift solenoid. Oil burning is usually caused by bad valve guide seals or cylinder blow-by.

1989 Acura Legend LS, automatic. Car is at 4000 rpms before it goes to the next gear, at 25MPH. Is that normal.

could be normal shift timing set by the shifting solenoid's value related to the diagnostic board on the car i noticed some cars will hit that mark before shifting

2002 acura cl shifts hard into 3rd gear engine and tcs lights on

The Transmission is likely shot. That year along with others had transmission defects. My new 2002 TLs died at 21k miles. I go to Acura for most all service and they gave me a $1500 discount on a tranny. It still cost me $3500.

Transmission problems

try the vehicles vss (speed sensor) it will definitly cause the speedo to stop working and the hard shifts. When your vss goes out it automatically goes into LIMPIN mode to protect the transmission from from damage. the vss is located next to the oil filter and looks similar to small distributor. Its about 130-150$ but it should solve the problem. I have been doin transmissions for about 8 years i hopes this helps you.
