could be normal shift timing set by the shifting solenoid's value related to the diagnostic board on the car i noticed some cars will hit that mark before shifting
doesn't need a rebuild
try an oil change for the transmission as it indicates dirty oil and sticking balves
should have been changed at the 60000 miles mark or 120,000miles
run fault codes to check for torque converter clutch servo/ solenoid problem
The Transmission is likely shot. That year along with others had transmission defects. My new 2002 TLs died at 21k miles. I go to Acura for most all service and they gave me a $1500 discount on a tranny. It still cost me $3500.
try the vehicles vss (speed sensor) it will definitly cause the speedo to stop working and the hard shifts. When your vss goes out it automatically goes into LIMPIN mode to protect the transmission from from damage. the vss is located next to the oil filter and looks similar to small distributor. Its about 130-150$ but it should solve the problem. I have been doin transmissions for about 8 years i hopes this helps you.
