If you mean P0128, then this means that the engine's PCM detected that the engine has not reached the required temperature level within a specified amount of time after starting the engine.

Check the following

  • Low engine coolant level
  • Leaking or stuck open thermostat
  • Faulty cooling fan (running too much)
  • Faulty coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
  • Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
The most likely cause would be a faulty thermostat

SOURCE: How to read trouble codes on 1998 Toyota Camry w/o scan tool

You can go to any auto parts store and they will usually read them for you for free. Around the late 90s many of the auto computer systems began requiring scan tools rather than the older method of simply flashing lights on the dash if you jumpered the correct pins.

How to diagnose a check engine light

First get a readout of the trouble code. Any mechanic, or Autozone in the US, can do this.

Then look up a chart of codes for your car. They don't change much year to year.

Trying to clear fault codes on 1995 toyota camry 4 cyl 2.2

Remove the EFI fuse for 10 sec or more with the ignition off. It is in Junction block 2 in the engine bay.

The trouble code will return if the fault still exists despite repair procedures.

Understanding trouble codes for my vehicles

first the quest, this is common for nissan, replace the knock sensor, this sensor is located under the intake manifold rear of engine, some models you can sneak sensor out without removing the intake, this will take care of that car. now the camry, im guessing this is a 4 cylinder engine, replace the air fuel sensor (oxygen sensor) thats on the exhaust manifold. this will solve that problem. hope this helped.

Engine light on 1994 toyota camry is on.

It has a trouble code, you need to have it scanned. The light will flash the trouble codes if you jump terminals E1 and TE1 in the diagnostic plug.

My 1990 Camry jerks and sometimes stalls

The 1st thing to do is have a trouble code retrieval test run to see what is making the check engine light come, this is the source of the problem.
