Brake lights won't come on when I press pedal.

I have a 97 suburban and the brake lights will not illuminate when I press the pedal. I can grab the brake light switch and manually depress the switch and it works. Is there a relay that might be malfunctioning because I can here it snapping when I press the pedal but no lights.

It sounds as if whats happening is that your brake pedal switch has become misaligned with the pedal itself and when you depress the brakes what you are hearing is the pedal rod sliding alongside of the switch housing try and see if the pedal is actually hitting the switch from underneath the dash and if it isnt see if it can be rotated or bent into position to hit the pedal rod

What else can trigger the wrench icon in a 2004 Maxx LT besides the oil reset? I've reset my oil successfully but wrench icon still on.

Check the brake pedal switch it is under the dash, follow the brake arm up from the pedal and you will see it, there maybe two switches and if there is one of those is brake lights and the other is cruise control. The maintenance light can be checked by getting a code reader and plugging it in to the port

It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.

1999 Suburban Chevy, Every time I press the brake pedel I can hear air comming from the rubber boot inside the cab. Is the brake booster gone/going bad?

Usually, a hissing noise when you press the brake pedal is indicative of a leaking brake booster, yes.

While sitting still, idling, have someone else push the brake and grab a piece of garden hose or something, hold it to your ear, and listen up under the dash to find out if the noise is actually coming from that area, or you could also just pinch the line with a pair of vice grips, and see if you still hear the noise.

Your brakes will not cease to function as a result of a booster leak, but if it fails completely, they will become substantially more difficult to use.

My turn signals and brake lights are not working (97 GMC Suburban). reverse lights work fine. it is not a bulb problem i tried to change them. one of the circut boards for the lights is new. not sure if...

Does your high mount stop light work? If it doesn't, then it'll be the brake switch located just above your brake pedal.

If the light does work, then it should be the electronic flasher module that will be located under your dash near the steering column. It will be labeled. This controls your signals, but I believe your brake lights are also on the same bulb as your signals, so when this goes, it can affect your brake lights
