I have a 2000 Ford Focus Zx3 and the speedometer went out all other gauges work fine, but the odometer is not moving and is staying at current millage. I just replaced the Vss and its still not working. I just installed an amp and sub. When i hit a puddle the other day the speedometer went crazy for about an half hour and now it doesn't work at all. Any Help?
try to force it to do the water thing again, and do it till a fuse blows locate what all is wired into that circuit, any signals leading to the cluster are suspect, repair and then try replacing cluster.try to force it to do the water thing again, and do it till a fuse blows locate what all is wired into that circuit, any signals leading to the cluster are suspect, repair and then try replacing cluster.

Usually if both the odometer and speedometer stop working, the problem is the speed sensor on the transmission. You should also have a trouble code in the engine computer. If one component works but the other does not, the problem is usually the speedometer head in the dash.
so the only thing not working is the fuel gauge? the odometer , speedometer , and rpm gauge work, but dont light up? if so, does the radio or any other lights illuminate? check your dimmer switch for these issues. please let me know a little more information
a loose or damaged wire is causing a short circuit!
you ned to get it tested & rectified by a auto electrician ASAP!
as wiring gets very hot & can destroy your vehicle! {catch fire]
it may have a static charge in the instrument cluster, try un-hooking the battery then turn the key on and even hit the brakes to try to drain the spark out of the system, hooking the 2 cables together with the battery disconnected may work as well to drain it.hook up the battery and see what happens, but make sure the key is off and nothing is on-lights,radio,wipers etc,it could send a spark to the computer.
there are more wires that you cannot see that are melted that is causing the problem. trace all of your wires, starting with the license plate light, all the way to the headlights
so what would you recommend to just replace the whole cluster?
