It's a oxy sensor code for lean fuel misture. try cleaning sensor first. change fuel filter and add a can of SEAFOAM to tank of PREMIUM gas. *** SEAFOAM 3-5000 miles, andd it should take care of this ethanol gas problem. I hate ethanol gas,

An Engine Light came on the dashboard of my 2003 Ford Windstar.The code came up saying p0171 (Fuel System too lean.(Cylinder bank 1) What does this mean?
P0171=System Too Lean Bank 1,
not cylinder 1,it means the oxygen sensor on the drivers side exhaust was stuck on lean and set a code.
doesn't mean you need to change the oxygen sensor yet,first clear the code and see if it corrected its self.

Even though your O2 sensor is showing good by your scan, it could be lazy in giving readings. It has less than a 10 second window to give the reading especially if it is a heated O2 sensor. Try a Bosch unit.
