There is a door attached to the cable behind the levers on the heater controls. The cable goes to the heating unit under the dash to a trap door that is supposed to move. You will want to look to see that the cable is attached and moving the lever on the side of the blower box under the dash. If its not moving, move it manually and see if you get temperature change to cool. Probably, your heater is stuck on and hot air is being carried over the heater core and into the vehicle. You need to close off the door that allows the heat into the vehicle and then trace the cable back to the lever to find out where the problem is. Maybe a broken or disconnected cable or improper closing heater box door.

My 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo is overheating to near hot?

Have you checked the electric fan. It is possible that the fan sensor is malfuncioning causing the fan to not turn on. Also, the coolant needs to be mixed with water at the proper rate to cool properly. You can check the fan fuse or relay. If the heater is not puting out hot air, the heater core could be clogged, not allowing the coolant to circulate.

Heater not working

Feel your heater hoses. If both are hot, the heater core is circulating coolant, and the thermostat is not a problem. The door controls in the heater case need attention.
If only one heater hose is hot and the other cool, look for a water valve in the heater hoses-may be closed. Or the core has an air blockage or blockage-try to backflush it with a garden hose.
If both heater hoses are cool (on a warmed up engine), then it could be thermostat is stuck open.

hi Planeman.
Why is the heater in my car not working? My heater is not blowing out hot air also my ac is not puting out cool air

Check the vacuum hose that is attached to the engine and runs back to firewall behind the engine. It is a small black plastic tube. If the air cleaner top at the engine has been taken off, it may have caught this tube and disconnected it. You have a vacuum problem. If a radio has been installed, it is possible that the connector on the heater controls could have been dislocated.

Hot air blows but cools down in 15-20 seconds.

You likely have a restriction in the heater coolant hose circuit - perhaps a coolant control valve not fully opening, or a kinked hose.
Insufficient coolant volume is flowing to keep the heater core hot.
Try back flushing the heater core system with a garden hose to check flow.

My 91 cadillac devile has no heat , just cool air blows even when

The heater in your car depends upon a flow of hot coolant going through the heater core in order to get hot air into the car. If the heater core is partially plugged, it will restrict the flow. If you have a head gasket that is putting exhaust into the cooling system, it will eventually get into the heater core. When this happens there is no coolant in the heater core to make the air warm. If the water pump vanes have corroded away the result will be very poor coolant circulation causing the heater to not blow hot air. If your car is equipped with a heater control valve that is not functioning properly, the coolant flow will be restricted. One or a combination of these factors is likely the culprit in your case.

if the car is not overheating, the thermostat is working fine.... replace or flush the heater core multiple times to try and eliminate sediment build-up.
