if the band needs adjusting then it would be doing it before the oil change
possible that while you were doing something, the vacuum line or the vacuum actuator was damaged or wires to the 3rd ratio servo/ solenoid were damaged
run the fault codes to find out the fault area
Could be many things. Depends on transmission. Band, servo, seals, valve body. Take it back if rebuilt at a garage. Most have 1 year, 12000 mile warranties
.
Your transmission must be slipping in 2nd gear and 4th gear these pins are selective sizes and requires a special measuring tool to get proper size. If trans shifts fine from 1st to 3rd most likely the band anchor is broken. Drop the pan look at passenger side of transmission near dipstick entry point there is a open area if the band is way from the reverse drum then it is broken remove TCC solenoid this is up front and center of transmission then remove transmission place tail shaft down remove torque converter and front pump by prying in open area discussed early but moving the input shaft around you can remove the band for replacement and reassemble the same way with new gaskets DO NOT lift up on shaft it will de-spline the clutches and very tough to re align. Good luck.
If this is an automatic it appears that the servo case for the bands has blown the end out and the bands will not work any more. . I have seen it on transmissions as there is a fault in that the casting in this area is too thin and continual engagement of the bands fatigues this area and the housing for the piston cracks out. Pull the sump and look in that are at the base of the band .Do not pull the box yet as in some units it can be replace in car.
This is equiped with a GM 4L3OE. It has an adjustable low band in the large trans pan, but if it slipps in 3rd the direct drum cracks where the stata rings meet the drum. The trans would need to come out to change the drum
There are to many things that can cause this problem, best thing to is go get the ECM scanned for DTC codes at a transmission shop or Auto zone or Parts Source since they scan for free.
The ECM should have DTC code in it's memory on how the transmission is Performing and have the Transmission line tested for Fluid pressure.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh and also ways check with more then on transmission shop if there tell you that you need a new Transmission,
It could be a simple as the transmission filter falling off causing the lost of transmission fluid pressure. Check the transmission fluid too.
call a dealer and they will tell you you are suppose to change your transmission fluid every 2 years or 30,000miles but if you was carrying this much load you may have over heated the transmission so I would shop around and get a good deal at a transmission place where they can replace the filter and the fluid and adjust the bands on the transmission if needed
