My check engine and check fuel cap light keep coming on after i changed the gas cap twice and reset the light it came back on what could this be. I drive a 06 lincoln navigator

You need to diagnose any codes you get
& smoke test the evap system, to find a
problem

Seldom does throwing on parts with a name similar
to a code work

Codes have nothing to do with installing parts

Clearing codes, clears all data needed to diagnose
the failed system & the evap system only runs every few
days,so you done as far as codes helping

What code is PO498?

po498 is a generic fuel system ventilation code. It could be caused by anything from a loose gas cap to a small hole or leak in the gas tank vent lines. Check the seal of your gas cap...most common problem.

Why does the check engine light comes on saying the gas cap is loose or off when it is on tight.

Hi,
looks like there is a sensor on the filler cap/lid side.
which is faulty and not sending correct signal to the main computer in the car.

Engine light staying on

The engine light comes on from some kind of problem with the engine. It could be a sensor of any kind. The best thing to do is go to a place like AutoZone and have them scan it and find out what is going on. One thing you could check is the gas cap, if she put gas in it and didn't get the cap on tight it could set a code and turn on the light. If you get the cap on right the light should eventually go out. Please rate my answer so I get the points for answering your question.

Hello, have you tried to unhook the negative side of the battery for about 10 minutes and then go from there . It should reset the computer completely .

Check engine light went on Monday evening when I started my 2004 Hyundai Elantra. I shut it off and tightened the gas cap. That didn't work. It is still on as of Tuesday afternoon.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible system faults (the gas cap is just one of them) that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen/Oriley and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.

Engine light came on

Make sure your gas cap is tight, at least 5 clicks, sometimes a gas cap that doesn't seal tight will trigger the Check Engine Light. If the light stays on you will need to pull the Trouble Code from the ECM (Computer) using a OBD II scanner.

Engine check light comes on and stays on for awhile then goes off. Dometimes when I fill the gas tank the check engine light comes on. is something to do with the gas cap or the instrument lights.

IF IT COME ON EVERY TIME YOU GET GAS.GAS CAP HAS BAD SEAL IT MORE LIKELY YOUR PROBLEM BUT LET AUTO ZONE SCAN IT FREE TO SEE WHAT TROUBLE CODE YOU ARE GETTING.

Check engine light came on. Code P1456.

Did you change the gas cap with a Honda gas cap? Tighten it at least three clicks?
Also, Honda recommends that you never top off the tank when getting gas (only go to the click-off of the pump; otherwise you can get back flow into the system that will cause the code).
Tightening or replacing the cap will not immediately cause the light to go off; it can take up to three days of driving for the light to reset.
To check if your readiness codes (emission system) are set, turn the ignition to ON (II), without starting the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.
You can, of course, try resetting your engine light to see if it will come back on (which it probably will). I believe the procedure is:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.

Hope this helps you.
