Hi Mathew:
"hand brake" is just another way to say "parking brake".
Used to be common that the parking brake was applied by hand and was a lever (example TR sports car) or a pull handle.
Most modern vehicles now have a foot pedal that you depress and then release by using your hand to pull a small lever.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

2004 xj hand break fault; engine system fail

this can also be caused by the throttle body sensor being wet,or has some moisture...This is a comon issue especially with xjr's because the throttle bopdy is near the firewall...Once the sensor is wet the car will go into engine fault, brake ,traction control failure ,as wwell as limp mode...But as stated have the code pull and defined to pin point the issue.

Brake lights not working all time could it be because loose pedal on xsara picasso

Definately a likely cause. The brake lights are controlled by a switch that is located next to the brake pedal. When you push the brake pedal, the switch moves and turns on the lights. If your brake pedal is loose or the switch is not aligned just right, it could cause your brake lights to fail intermittently.

Montero rear right side grinding noise.checked the brake pads, brake shoes, drive shaft, shocker, suspension arms, brake discs, caliper and caliper pins.found ok,but still grinding noise on rough road

This is one of them questions and need i say more ,as without looking myself and having a drive then i could tell you straight away iam sure ,because without hearing the noise i cannot even summise where or what it is because a grinding noise is -well -difficult to denominate exacty what one defines as a grinding noise ,myself i would define it as a rythmic noise with the road speed but someone else would call it that noise for a trailing arm bush loose or worn but one thing to check is are the pads hitting a part of the brake disk thats corroded like on the edge of the brake disk ,sorry to be absolutely no help at all but i hope you appreciate how difficult it is to diagnose something with hearing it and from afar ,but if you only hear the noise when on a rough road could it be the tyres like a deformed tyre or them town and country tyres with big chunky treads .

Have 1992 accord ex with abs , abs light is on and the brake peddle goes nearly to floor before car stops. put a new brake booster and bleed the brakes and pads or good.

the abs and brakes are related, but not brakes are not dependent on abs. you mentioned you got new brake pads and the brake pedal got fixed? if it didnt get fixed, then your master cylinder might be going out, its the only logical thing if you bled your brake pads. about the abs, it stands for anti-lock braking system. what it does is at instant high speed stops, it pumps your brakes very fast to stop your wheels from locking up, which prevents your car from skidding, and allows you to manouver your steering wheel as you are braking. very helpful, but not essential. it is like passanger or even drivers airbags, definately better to have, but not essential. if you dont have money to fix your abs right now, dont worry about it, as at least half the cars on the road, including newer, basic cars are not equiped with abs. another thing, abs is a relative new technology, which became common in the 1990s, which means before that, cars didnt have abs, so if someone says to fix it right away because it is 100 percent dangerous, they are just exagerating. just take a little extra precaution while braking, thats all. on the other hand, if you do have the money to fix the abs, you can start by retrieving the code first using a paper clip:

this will lead you in the right direction. hope this helps, and if you need any help, leave a comment and ill gladly respond. goodluck
