Part of the door latch, all doors
Jeff Armer is our Fixya vehicle electronics specialist, and of course is 100% correct.
The electrical door jamb switch is located on the latch on the inside of the door. You may be able to get it to work if you spray the latch in the door with WD40 and slam the door a few times, or work the latch open and closed using a screwdriver to trip the latch and open using the door handle. You have one or more door ajar sensor switches that are defective, have the BCM (Body control module) scanned to see which door is causing it, the light can be turned on by any of the 4 doors. The sensor is located inside the door on the door latch mechanism, there is no fuse as it is a ground circuit.
There is a door ajar switch , an it is dependent on make model an year vehicle as to it's location ! Most usually it is located in the door latch assembly, which means you must take the door panel off .
Door ajar sensors on explorers get disconnected, sometimes the magnets get stuck. Spray WD40 or a lubricant on all four door jamb mechanisms (or two). Sometimes only one fails, and it is usually the tail gate one. Do a google.com search for the location of the sensors and see if they need replacement.
the door ajar sensor is located on the door latch assembly, u must detrim the door and then remove the rear most window guide rail, it twists into the latch at rear of latch, it is very small and a real pain to change.
Try opening and closing all four doors one at a time to determine which door ajar sensor has failed. Probably driver door. Sensor is located in door latch assembly and is a challenge for first timers. This is a common problem with these vehicles.
on the side of tranny where shift cable connects is the transmission range sensor or also called the MLP,this sensor could be the cause of no backup lights.
the door ajar switches are located in the door latchs.door ajar switches stick alot, spray WD-40 into all door latches, then open and close doors several times,if switch is only sticking this will cure problem.
I'm pretty sure that they are integral to the door lock assembly on that model, would need to replace the whole door lock if that is the case. Best to get the Ford dealer to plug in their computer and check the signals from the door locks to see which one is at fault. Check central locking and power mirror fuses first, if no power to door locks then the door ajar sensors will have no power as well.
