1996 Ford Aerostar Extended Questions & Answers
I have to replace my 1996 ford aerostar oxygen
An O2 Sensor Code, does not mean the sensor is bad.
You failed for the check light, not the code.
The sensor could be old and worn out, when ever you get a check light, yes, you do retrieve all codes first. Then the code is used to direct you to an area or problem, within the powertrain .
O2 Codes are caused more by vacuum issues or other issues, and the code is set, as a result of trying to correct short term fuel trim, and goes out of range, setting the light/code

96 Aerostar 3.0 fuel injected.. The motor runs
I am pretty sure that the check engine light is on due to the fact of the converter being off the vehicle but was wondering if you would be able to pull any and all diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's). We could ignore any DTC's related to the converters. Those DTC's would help narrow down the problem. Would you be able to do that and let me know what they are? It sounds as if your problem may be the oxygen sensors (O2 sensor) and due to the fact that you were having converter problems they may be loaded with fuel and they may be sending the wrong information to the vehicles computer (PCM). I believe you will get a code of P0171 which is telling your PCM that you are running lean and your PCM is giving your vehicle to much fuel (the injectors are staying open too long cause it thinks it's running lean or not getting enough fuel). I would try unplugging the O2 sensors and see if that helps. If you can get the DTC's you can rely/comment here or feel free to email me directly at
[email protected] with your information and I'll be happy to help you diagnose the problem.
