Some cars use vacuum from the engine to open and close the doors that direct the air to different positions. It is possible that the vacuum line to the controls is cracked or disconnected.

hi ,look under your dash near the blower and find a 4 or 5 wire plug going in near the blower, unplug it and remove the screws holding it in place ,pull it out ,it will be about half a cigarette packet in size when youve got it out in your hand ,this is most likely your problem part ,its a heater resistor ,it controls your fan speeds,it should be a white chalky resistor or an alloy heat sink type ,they come in 2 ways as i've stated, phone a ford specialist junkyard or auto wrecker or a new ford dealer and give them the part number it has on it and your thunderbird specs or ID numbers and you should be able to locate a replacement without too much bother .

I'm afraid you have the deluxe system,my friend. It has 2 electronic circuit boards that may be going bad. Very expensive unless you can find used or aftermarket.
I hope it's just the blower motor, but I had the other thing happen and I had to wire around it,losing my AUTO temp and blower control. don-ohio

Blower motor resistor

The blower motor resistor is located near the blower motor. It is held in place by 2 screws, and has a wire clip connected to it. Very simple fix.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

Air blowing out of defrost only and not vents

You have a vacuum leak, defroster is the default position for no vacuum. Check all the vacuum lines near where you were working to make sure you didn't accidentally knock one loose.
If you don't see nothing there find the small black vacuum line that goes thru the firewall near the evaporator and heater core under hood. Trace it back to the vacuum canister and then to the intake manifold to make sure it is hooked up.

Defroster & floor blowers don't work but front facing vents do

There are what they call mode door's these days they have a electrical motor that turnes the door to different posistions...sounds like yours is become broken. It would depend on your expertise in the ac & heating system area to replace the part. Sometimes easy and most of the times the dash has to be removed.
