Depends on the year and trim. I like the older single overhead camshaft 2.0l SPI models. They have engine code "P".
Zetec DOHC "3" are powerful, but may drop a valve seat as it ages. I haven't heard much about the 2.3l duratecs, but I suppose that's a good thing. I have heard reports of the new ecoboost motors having trouble, but I bet that's because of people putting regular 87 gas into a turbocharged engine. Turbos need high octane. At anyrate; keep it tuned, change the oil, and keep it under 90. Follow the owner's manual instructions, and you will have no trouble with a Focus or Escort.
