My 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier gas gauge doesn't work. It marks like if the gas was overfulled, it goes in contact with the temparature gauge. What is this problem? Please Help!
This is a common problem with Chevy Cavalier and has nothing to do with the fuel tank sending unit. The problem is the instrument cluster itself, which must be repaired or replaced. This is a common problem with Chevy Cavalier and has nothing to do with the fuel tank sending unit. Most likely the plug that goes into the cluster. Remove it and just plug it back in. I've done too many to count that would fix this problem. If all the gauges dieid.
gas is a very high evaporative liquid..fumes extremely strong..if overfull it will smell..and if emissions equipment has issues it will smell also.. when the engine gets hot, any gas present will vent off until the engine cools..thats the fuels evaporative nature..still keep an eye out for issues..
Before i took the steering wheel off i would locate the horn itself and unplug it and run a straight wire from each battery post and touch one wire to each contacter on the horn to make sure the horns not bad itself. But to take the steering wheel off you have to unbolt the airbag from the back remove it and then you should be able to check the horn contacter without pulling the steering wheel.
I can't understand how the bad cluster would prevent you from fueling. The instrument cluster can be repaired. Look up specmo.com . I had mine repaired there. Quick turnaround. Previous to using Specmo, I tried Two parts from salvage yard and both turned out to be bad. Dealer wanted about $500 to do the repair. I did removal and install, Specmo repaired my cluster for around $125.
This is common on the 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and can be fixed. Check out this site for more on how to get it repaired - Cavalier gas gauge broken
Hello, Last year General Motors lost a lawsuit about the instrument panels in 2002 to 2005 trucks. The following website contains all the information about this lawsuit settlement. http://www.speedometersettlement.com/
This impacts the entire gauge cluster in your vehicle.
I have the same year and model as yours and my speedo is never accurate and the tach always read 6000.
The issue is the metal bearings that the gauge meter movements use. The bearings are getting dry which impedes the meter movement.
