Did it run okay after the starter was changed? There are lots of ideas in the link, but really, you need a mobile auto-electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Communication issues between modules.
If the check engine light is on there will be OBDII and manufacturer specific codes. These codes start with a letter and are followed by four numbers (P0304 for example). These codes can only be read by an OBDII code reader or a scan tool. These are the codes you need to get in order to start trouble shooting your vehicles problem.
The check engine light indicates that a trouble code is stored in the vehicle's computer memory. An OBD II code reader is needed to read out the code and explain it. Major auto parts stores will use one of these readers to read out your code for free. With the code, a diagnostic routine can be developed to trouble shoot the problem.
Hi:
A lot of Tercels consume oil when they get a few miles on them, and many are leaking oil past the valve seals. All of this oil ends up shortening the life of the catalytic converter too. It is Valve Seals that are the culprit, and not too expensive to buy, just somewhat expensive to change. You need to have a local auto parts store scan your engine code for free to tell you what caused it. That way, you can trouble shoot the problem better.
ok stay with me. Buy yourself a 12V test light. Disconnect negative side of the batt. You might need 2 people for this. With test light connect ground wire to disconnected batt cable. Touch pointed end of test light in battery open terminal. If it lights up, you have a 12V drain in teh system. Now, most times you remove ONE fuse at a time and reinstall till the light goes out. MAKE SURE ALL DOORS ARE CLOSED AND EVERYTHING ELSE OFF. One you determine which circuit it is, .the fun begins. What on that circuit is draining the battery ?
