SOURCE: EGR Valve needs cleaning or replacing

The link below is a diagram of the EGR valve. Looks like a mushroom with vacuum lines attached.

http://www.chiltonlibrary.com/content/images/8666/images/86664018.gif

Instructions:

  • Label and disconnect the hoses from the valve. Carefully loosen and remove the retaining bolts, remembering that they are probably heat-seized and rusty. Use penetrating oil freely.
  • Remove the valve and clean the gasket remains from both mating surfaces.
  • Inspect the valve for any sign of carbon deposits or other cause of binding or sticking. The valve must close and seal properly; the pintle area may be cleaned with solvent to remove soot and carbon.

  • I hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

SOURCE: Where is the EGR Valve located on a 2004 Galant

It is on the firewall just behind the engine, to replace it you need to detach the vacuum hose, remove the two EGR valve mounting bolts, remove the EGR valve from the intake manifold and then put in the new one.

    5. Remove the mounting bolts and the EGR valve from the engine.
    6. Clean the mating surfaces on the valve and the engine. Make sure to remove all gasket material.

    SOURCE: p0401 egr flow insufficient

The EGR valve is usually to the right side of motor triangular shape which has 3 screws. There is a metal pipe coming underneath which send excess "smoke" thro it. It tends to carbon up so needs to be cleaned. There are also 3 "pintle valves" on springs inside and the springs could be weakened/carboned up causing the valves to remain open/shut.

Where is the egr solenoid located

EGR vacuum solenoid is located below your EGR valve. Center your self on the engine, look between the rear of the engine and your firewall. You can see your the top of you EGR valve, there will be a small vacuum hose connected to the top. Follow that small hose straight down from your EGR valve and it connects to the solenoid. You can see the solenoid better from beneath the car. May have an orange connector. Hope this helps.

Need to know where the egr valve is located on a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 liter engine

. The EGR valve is located in front of the oil filler neck. All you need to do is remove the electrical wire from the top of the valve, there is a clip on the connector so don't try and pull it off without lifting the clip. Once the wire has been disconnected, just unbolt the two bolts holding the EGR valve on. Thats it.
