SOURCE: Automobile electrical problem

I hate to say it but GM "W" bodies of that time period ( Regal, Cutlass Supreme, Lumina, and Grand Prix) are notorious for turn signal problems. I'm a machanic and also have owned 3 W body vehicles. The pivot bushing in the switch wears prematurely and in turn causes the copper contacts to barely touch each other. If the contacts are dirty, there is resistance. Where there is resistance, there is heat, hence the smoke. It's just a poor design. What I do instead of replacing the switch requires some time and some surgical skill but it always works for me. At the pivot end of the switch, I remove the screw and remove the metal tube insert. I wrap the metal with electrical tape to take up the slack from the wear then grease the heck out of it. At the contact end I attach a piece of sheet metal to the bottom of the movable part of the switch so it sits underneath the non-moveable part making it so the moveable part can't lift up and lose contact. That's just a vague description but if you want a detailed one let me know and I'll write one. I did it to my '89 Regal 4 yrs. ago and to my wife's Grand Prix 1 yr. ago and they both still work great. Just a design flaw in the switch. Sometimes you have to pick up wher the car companies left off! beest921

SOURCE: where is the turn signal flasher on a 1994

There are 2 flasher relays. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. Turn Signal Flasher is located on the driver's side, under dash, mounted on upper passenger side of steering column support. Hazard Flasher is located same place only it is mounted on the driver's side of the steering column.

My turn signal doesn't work, but the emergency flashers do, and the fuse does work.

your problem is probably going to be in the column at the signal switch itself

Both of the rear turn signals stopped working at the same time, but everything else seems to work. Do you know what can cause this to happen? I changed one of the bulbs and it didn't work.

There is a turn signal flasher under dash...most have a flasher for the emergency signals and one for the turn signals...some have one flasher....but check fuses first...normally it is fuse burnt...if you can locate the flasher normally they will get abnormally warm when bad......it should look like a round or square silver shiney or black cube.........if these are good with ign.on hold turn signal lever down firmly ...if it works replace turn signal unit.....if none of this works you have to troubleshoot wiring...
...normally yellow wire is left turn and green wire is right turn...black or white is ground red is stop light....but normally it is a blown fuse or flasher.

My rear turn signal was not working. I changed the bulb and tried again and this time none of my signals are working, nor my hazard lights. I changed the fuses inside the car but that did not work.

Last thing to try before trouble shooting the wires for a short is the flasher unit. Usually it is located on or near the fuse box and is normally round and silver about 1" in diameter. If that doesn't work, none of the turn signals or flashers will work. You you had flashers but not turn signals I would say look at the switch on the steering column but you have nothing which points to the flasher control.

believe it or not, a 4 way flasher can cause this even if it itself is working properly, otherwise flasher, bulbs, or switch is bad .

My hazard lights work but the turn signals wont

Have you tried changing the flasher unit (the small plugin unit that makes the click sound when flashing)?

These units come in several variations - perhaps an unsuitable unit has been installed.

If none of the above suggestions help, you should re-check the operation on the turn signal switch.
In one of the turn positions, if you bridge out the 2 correct pins of the flasher unit, the indicators on one side should light when you move the switch to that position.
Move the switch to the other turn position, and the indicator lights on that side should light.

If none of the above helps, you will need a vehicle wiring diagram to help find the problem.
