SOURCE: 96 jeep Grand Cherokee tailgate will not open

This is kind of tricky. OK let's start, you have to crawl into the rear hatch area from the inside of the car. You'll have to pull the rear panel off the hatch, a screwdriver between the panel and hatch near the window will work. There might be 2 screws on the panel you could take out. The trick is to pull the panel far away enough to stick your arm down towards the latch and release it by hand. We did this at the dealer all the time.

SOURCE: 1998 jeep grans cherokee leaking water in the

Hi Vichall,

The first step is to locate the leak and identify the source.

Pull the rug back. Dry the area. This will help locate new moisture.

  • Is the water clear? Does it smell sweet?
  • Does it only leak with the engine running? After Turned off? All the time?
  • Does it only leak with the heater on? A/C on?
  • Is your coolant level down?
  • Is their a time of day it happens more? (Early morning)
Comment back with your findings. We can take it from there

Best regards
Mike

SOURCE: how to fix a broken hood latch on a 98 jeep

First, take a good look at it and find out what isn't working. Often they just get rusted and sluggish. Use wd40 or other solvent and work the mechanism to free it up. If that does not work, you usually can get the assembly very cheaply at an auto salvage yard.
Also make sure the rubber bumper stops are properly adjusted they tend to wear and flatten and will allow the hood to flutter if that happens. The bumper screws up and down to adjust.

SOURCE: need diagram for 1995 Jeep Cherokee serpintine belt

d9bde1f.png Don't mind the art work, but it should get the job done. You did not mention the engine size, so I gave you the 4.0 L because it is the most common engine.

If the key cylinder turns but the door does not lock, you may have to remove the inside panel and check the latch.

Tailgate won't open

The latch is most likely jammed. This can occur when the trunk is closed and jams against something that is in the trunk. Bring it to a body shop and they should be able to fix it.

The hatch on my 1996 Jeep Cherokee is jammed

This is an EXTREMELY common problem on this and many other Jeep vehicles with the similar latch design.

How to fix it:
You're going to need two people. One needs to be sitting in the trunk area, pushing the hatch outwards with a decent amount of force. The other, needs to be outside pulling the handle up and pushing in, and then pulling back.

Once you get it open, apply grease or your choice of penetrating agent to the entire latch system. Though, in some cases, it could just be that something got caught in between the latch and the trunk as the tailgate shut and thats why it got stuck.

Good luck!

I can't get my hatchback (trunk) door open on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have unlocked it...Is there a secret button somewhere? And there is no key lock around the handle. I just got the car.

probably needs a new latch but from inside strip out the interior boot panel and check latch operation and you should be able to open by pulling rods
