2006 ford focus se xr battery light has been on for 3 months, had battery checked numerous times... fine, good,no problem now it wont crank and the electrical system went haywire ! whats wrong ?
The battery light has nothing to do with the battery itself, it is indicating that there is a problem with the alternator that charges the battery, most likely a defective rectifier bridge diode has failed.

There's a good chance it's the ignition switch. Before replacing get some electronics cleaner. It comes in a spray can. Spray the key, insert, and turn it back and forth. Do this numerous times. You can also spray a couple quick squirts in the ignition. Be sure to hold a rag over the can while doing so to prevent spray back. You don't want to get it in your eyes or even on your skin so wear ppe. Before starting your car let it dry for 10 minutes or so.
If this doesn't work I would replace the ignition switch.
The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . Your vehicle is a rolling computer .The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , there is also a body computer ( SJB ) smart junction box , Engine computer etc... they all communicate on a serial data network , C.A.N - controller area network . It's hard to know what's wrong when you don't know how it works . There could be codes stored in the computers , these will not always turn on the check engine light . Ford Smart Charge System Alternator Not Charging How to Diagnose Controller Area Network CAN
Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. You should see
more than 14 volts. If it is less than 13 volts than the alternator is
no longer charging. Make sure you check for power on the large wire on
the back of the alternator!
I have a 2006 Focus and I am having the same problems. I have already replaced the battery and it hasn't helped. This is not a constant problem. Only every couple of days and then she runs fine. However I have noticed my gas peddle sticking when I first try to give it gas. Then it clears up and runs fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
check all battery leads and earth straps
"" car body and engen bay straps""
also check battery terminals are tight check its full of battery water too if its been low for a time bump it!
and have a ""drop meeter test"" done on the battery if its a bad battery it should show that up first time it could have cracked plates inside the battery its self, test by turning on head lights then hit starter, if every thing go's dead!!!! put ""good jump start"" battery on to car and try it again,,, all should work just fine then,,,,it could just be a flat battery?????
