SOURCE: My 2004 Mitsubishi Endevor steering wheel is locked

You don't have to be air bag certified. There is no such thing. You just have to have the knowledge to remove them. The trick is disconnect the battery and wait at least 30 minutes to be safe for the module to discharge. Then when removed DO NOT place the pad facing down. If you do and the bag deployed it would shoot up like a rocket. Not that it will deploy but in this case safety is job one. That's all their is to it. And the lock person is correct. Someone does need to replace the ignition switch. The question is does you car have security and will the new tumbler and key need to be programmed. Be sure the person repairing has this knowledge. Its possible its just plug and play. Its really would be best to have a repair shop perform this.

SOURCE: ignition lock up. cannot turn key when inserted.

Have you tried pulling on your steering wheel at the same time you turn the key? Are you up against a curb? Try pulling it both ways. Push gearshift firmly into park and try it. It could be the safety switch in your counsel is faulty.

SOURCE: mitsubishi galant 2004 key stuck in ignition

1st Remove Battery cable from Battery because the only time the air bags will deploy is when the key is in the ignition. I have tilt steering and when I put the steering wheel in the up most position. I came right out. But now it seems to stick more lately.

SOURCE: I have a 98 Mitsubishi

Has this car even been in an accident where the airbags deployed? I had this occur on my Chrysler after an accident, so it may be a feature to insure that you get it repaired properly. In my case the car was totaled, so no repair was made.

Steering wheel wont lock and stuck in park

In the fuse block under the drivers side rear seat check the ignition 0 fuse. In the under hood fuse block check the B/U fuse and the BTSI fuse. If the b/u fuse is blown than you would not have back up lamps.

Key is stuck in ignition. Depressing the "unlock"

Somtimes you need to turn the steering wheel a little to allow the lock to engage.

Try depress the unlock button while moving the steering back and forth a little. Try a lot..
If not work, drape a scarf or towel over steering column to hide key in ignition, and use spare key to open door lock. You do have spare key?
Check your insurance, you may have lock smith lock out coverage.
Good luck.

What is the procedure to changing an keyed ignition lock?

Hi there,

Removal

Disconnect the negative battery cable with the proper size wrench and place away from the battery.
Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the key to the run position.
Remove the steering column cover on a tilt steering wheel model by pressing the upper and lower section of the cover together and pulling free from the mounting plate. Remove the steering column covers on a non tilt steering wheel model by using a Philips screwdriver and unscrewing the mounting screws.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by lifting up on the release tab and pulling.
Press the ignition switch actuator pin by pushing a small screw driver into the key lock cylinder, while doing this pull the ignition switch out of the ignition switch housing.

Installation

Insert the new key into the new ignition switch and turn the key to the run position. Insert the new ignition switch into the ignition switch housing. Wiggle the switch back and forth until the actuator pin mounting hole is aligned and falls into place.
Install the electrical connector back into the connector housing by pressing it in with your hands.
Place the steering column covers back onto the non tilt steering wheel and insert mounting screws. Tighten screws using a Philips screwdriver. Place the steering column covers over the tilt steering wheel and press the upper and lower portion together to snap covers back into the mounting plate.
Pull on the ignition key to ensure switch is locked into place. Turn key to the "off" position and remove the key. Insert the key and start the vehicle.

Hope these help.

Changing steering wheel lock has engaged

The steering wheel lock is a metal prong that protrudes into the steering shaft from within the ignition lock assembly, that is held on by two security screws pointing upward underneath the plastic steering column covers. You can remove the 2 screws and check out the working of the mechanism. It's probably stuck. Most likely, when you put on the new steering wheel, you simply twisted the ignition assembly and it is now causing the steering lock to be wedged on in the lock channel. Try twisting it back the other direction with your hands and I'm pretty sure it will allow the spring loaded locking mechanism to release. This same problem happened to me and took me a while to troubleshoot what was going on in the mechanism and figure it out. If twisting it both directions and checking to see if it releases with the key turned doesn't fix it, just remove the ignition assembly and lubricate the locking mechanism bolt and that will fix it for sure.

How do i replace the key cylinder ignition on the 1991 sunbird le

This (plate) is held in place with a snap ring. You will need a special press to remove it and also a steering wheel puller to access the ignition lock cylinder. The actual switch is located on top of the steering column above the brake pedal. It is actuated with a rod from the ignition lock cylinder.

Ignition key is stuck in the cylinder

Did u try turning the steering wheel slightly in either direction? The steering wheel can 'jam' causing the key to seem stuck in the ignition. Simply turning the steering wheel a bit relieves the pressure and the key will turn. Let me know if this works for u
