2003 sport trac turned over started...died will not restart.

fords are noted for starter going out suddenly replace starter with new one for exact fit cheapest deal from ebay.

My guess, throttle positioning sensor is failing and won't hold when it's hot. this sets base idle.

Engine stalls or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Make sure you don't have an OVERHEATING problem. Engine damage is sure to occur if it's running too hot. don-ohio

start checking you fuel pressure first and refer to the specs either that or spark.

fuel system dirty or needs a fuel filter and probably a full tune-up

it's most likely an error code in your airbag system. Unfortunately, this means a trip to a dealership.

i had the same thing happen last year. it was a bad chip. i had to take it to the dealership to have the chip replaced. it cost about 200.00. it was not a big deal at all. after that though, my freeze plug busted and my alternator went out. but now all those problems are fixed. how come when you get a car paid off, everything starts going wrong??

Have someone help you do the following. Turn on the vehicle,before it dies,quickly tap the idle air control valve with a wrench or anything you have. If the engine does not die after you tap the IAC,this means that the IAC is faulty. The IAC is under the plastic plate that is behind the throttle body.
