Check spark at each end of spark plug pull every one and see if one is weak or not fireing could that could tell you if you have a bad coil clean cap and rotor contacts with light sand paper or wire brush check for moistor in cap... this will kill them dead in there tracks might just need a new rubber gasket for cap make sure you dry out and clean contacks first be for using again good luck

SOURCE: plymouth acclaim wont start,no spark,no fuel

Do me a favor and cycle the key to on, then off, then on, then off, then back to on,& leave it in the on position.(not start) Now watch & record any flashes of the check engine light. You will get a number of flashes, then a pause, then more flashes. for example: 3 flashes, pause, then 3 more, would be code 33. It will always be a 2 digit number. 2 flashes, pause then 5 flashes, is code 25. When you get 5 flashes, pause then 5 more, that's code 55 which means end of message. Get back to us with any codes that flash.

Remove the A.I.S motor and give it a good cleaning (especially the pintle -pointed end ) with throttle body spray cleaner, as well as the port you remove it from, then re-install and try it. That will usually cure it, and if it starts to happen again, replace the A.I.S. motor. Doesn't hurt to give throttle plate and area a spray while your at it.fd70c70.gif

Typical signals of detonation - either you are using a bad fuel or the timing of the ignition is off.
Replace the fuel and have the error codes read. If no codes are detected and the new fuel hasn't helped you should start checking every single sensor on the engine, starting with the distribution one.

2005 Mercury Sable Low RPM/dying on start

this 17 years old a good run. nothing new here on failures this old.
all car fail that is what they all do eventually. (entropy etc)
let me guess never fails in others hands
and scans show nothing wrong, but sure too late then, they are gone.
so is and engine problem, so we focus there.
engines (gas, in order fail for 3 ways)
  1. engine is bad, or cat melted (no) and egr stuck open (no)
  2. bad spark (fuel can not burn lacking spark so why skip #2?)
  3. bad fueling. too much or too little
in that order,

not enough evidence stated.
RPM's sink on start sometimes dies then usually it catches itself, idles high a few seconds then lines out.

runs great hot engine, so I guess fails only cold engine.
so bad spark plugs, bad spark coil boots or bad COPS
or bad CKP or CMP
why not just put in new plugs and new boots,
17years old those are NEVER GOOD.

ENGINE IS: 3.0L 2v or 4v (means 6x2 =12valvs or 6x4=24vavle heads.???? it has COPS, coil over plugs(spark)
6 cops ,6 new spark plugs and 6 new boots.
or learn now scan and drive,
or scan in the morning dead cold as the RPM go nuts
and does it misfire going nuts the RPM> misfire is spark first
or flooding 2nd the cold fast idle speed is wrong (IAC)

all I here is almost STALLS at cold start means why below 800 rpm hot and 1500 rpm cold so stalling is what MISFIRE?
can you prevent the too low RPM and stall with fast right foot action?
I say bad spark if not bad spark that is leaking injector or pair

learn to listen and feel for misfire,
and to use the right foot , adding throttle extra air to make it burn clean. Misfire s mostly violent. felt , heard, and see if you view the engine shack.
that is all I have but scanning it failing is how you fix cars

nobody can fix working car delivered a work car...
I have scan tool that logs and then play them back and bingo
GOTCHA. (P0306, and number 6 injectors is bad) see?

Car stalls then restarts

You need to run a fault code test on the car and do the service below. To run the test follow the instructions HERE
Also do this service.

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

After my 94 plymouth voyager 3.0L gets to runnig temp it misfires and stalls once in gear.It runs fine when its cold. I did a tune-up and still have the same problem

Have fuel pressure checked when it starts to misfire/stall and driving down the road at normal speeds.
Not unusual for fuel pump to run at proper pressure when cool, but lose pressure when warmed up. If it's only running bad when off accelerator and stopping or turning and runs down the highway good, remove and clean AIS/IAC motor. ( idle speed motor ) Once cleaned, if it runs better for a while then starts to act up again, replace it.

I am throwing codes PO353, PO352, PO351 on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport. 4.0 2WD. Its saying I have misfires. I was going down the road and the engine just stalled out. It would start right back up and idle...

Greetings john ingall Dec 12, 2016
piggy backers.. old. why not start a fresh post for only your car and not mix up other symptoms.
did play with the CMP or CKP. then cause p1391.
oops...a daisy.... you did it wrong.
Id not attack coil rail until the 1391 is cured, not me.

1: scan it ? post all DTC now.
2: DTCs trouble codes..????
3: is the ASD dropping off line, while running? (a key fact to know)
4: ever get a tune up this decade?????
5: spark gaps correct , to factory spec, and kept here doing repeated service? )
6: Do the scans show the IMMO tripping the ASD off line????
there are 8 reasons for ASD to trip , and cause a stall, all 8 are reported !
there are 50 other reasons for stalls, called misfiring...
the service manual is clear (p035x's)
Peak primary circuit current not achieved with maximum dwell time.
This means that the PCM charged to coil fully
and the current was way too low.
that means it found (out of spec) current.
even zero current,
means coil burned up or the transistors to it.
gee, id have the rail off and check each coil
there are 6 coils, 3 primary and 3 secondary
the SM cover this test, as all do so read it.
it can also be bad connections(wires) to same.
(crude, 5ohm pri, 20k secondary ohms)

OUR 4.0l HAS A RAIL PACK, COIL
WITH 3 COILS inside, and uses wasted spark to fire all 6
and if one coil fails you will loose, 2 cylinders, due to series HV wring, unless 1 wire shorts, but if one opens you loose 2 cylinders.
( Kirchhoff's laws 1; an open in series circuit flows no current, so both spark plugs go dead.

unless rich and super lucky , try using a scan tool
when the engine misfire, or stalls.
and report all errors seen, DTCs, a win/win.
the schematic, see F18 fuse , the coil pack
super simple no? ,yes, but not on PCM end. (Ask)
