Took car to belle tire because it made a clicking noise when turning right. they said my flex plate was bending under load and left axle boot has a hole and is leaking Greece. crack in trans?. (also have check engine light on, hole in cat and loose exhaust) was referred for transmission service. was told "replace both front axles, both front wheel bearings and research nose cone.." no mention of bending flex plate. estsmitated cost for trans work = $1000.00
When you take a car to a shop that sells tires , then expect to get ripped off for mechanical repairs as they sell tires first
clicking when turning indicates failing cv joints and that with your report of worn/torn grease boots indicates that the second opinion from the transmission shop was close to the problem
flex plates are what the torque converter is connected to at the end of the crankshaft and has the ring gear attached for starting the car
best if you find yourself an accredited service center that has experience on your make of car
cat converters fail internally and seldom rust out but crack and block the exhaust
run the fault codes first to get an idea of problem areas
talk with a drive shaft replacement shop to get quotes for the shafts
if the tranny is doing what it is supposed to be doing then the worst faults will be servo/ solenoids or speed sensors and all of them do not require a replacement transmission
beware now and get second quotes if in doubt but only use accredited service shops for repairs
Most likely, the clicking noise is a c/v joint. Probably the left c/v joint.
SOURCE: front axle bearing
if you are talking on the bearing inside the axel i will recomendo you to replace the whole axle but if you are talking about the one by the wheel meaning wheel bearing then replace just the wheel bearing
SOURCE: I have a grinding noise
I had a similiar problem. My car would actually pull to the left it was so bad. I took it to the dealer several times and they could not fix it. Turn out they where simply driving the car around the auto mall circle a couple of times. My wife took them on a 30 mile trip when it finally happened with a service tech in the car. The guy freaked out and had my wife take the car rite back and the service center took possession of the car and gave her a free rental even though the car was not under warranty. Turns out it was a faulty computer brake module, when it goes bad it ingages the traction control/stability control system when it is not needed. Not sure if this is your problem but it is something to think about.
