Dtrannyman is correct you not only need to change flange yokes drive shafts but you also need to change or reflash ECM and the wire harness connectors are wired differently better to have 4l60e rebuild for severe service / towing and add an external grant and a transfer case coolers also an engine oil cooler is never a bad idea just make sure all are properly installed my 97 express 1500 van is set up like that and now has over 520000 mi on it 400000 on trans since last rebuild I also recommend mobile 1 synthetic fluid and Lucas additive

here is a place to call that sells only GM parts and they will also let you know what will fit your truck Schram auto and truck parts 1-800-292-1032

This isn't as easy as you may think. The output shaft is different between the two so the transfer case (4wd) or driveshaft (2wd) wont' fit together. The computer control is different in each application. I wouldn't think that the crossmember set up is the same either, of course, I've only seen the 4L80 in 3/4 and heavier trucks.
You can build a 4L60 E so it is pretty tough. Change the gear sets to 5 pinion, heavy duty shell, wider band, aftermarket clutch packs, etc. This is what I recommend to my customers

Your best bet is to call the salvage yard and they can tell you what years will work on your vehicle.Hope this helps.Good luck.
