If it's a 2001, you can bet the airbags have developed cracks and are leaking. Arnott Industries sells replacement airbags that carry a lifetime warranty. They are a little tricky to install, but the kits have instructions and with a regular set of tools, you should be able to handle it.
If you want to see the cracks, jack the car up by the frame so that the back axle drops. You'll see the "cups" that the airbags sit on and surely hundreds of little splits in the rubber.
If you've had this problem a long time, there's a chance that the compressor (under the hood, and behind the drivers side headlight) has worn itself out trying to keep up the pressure and MAY have to be replaced.
There are spring kits the defeat the airbag system entirely, but it's such a great feature on this heavy car that I wouldn't consider making that change.
Hope this helps, or at least gets ya started!

SOURCE: 1999 Lincoln Town Car Air Bag Light Problem

Hi,

Considering the various possibilities and complexity of the system, it may be to your advantage to seek the services of your dealer and/or a qualified professional. This and the added fact that "state inspection" would not pass your vehicle without it.

Alternately, you may want to try this site specializing airbags for DIYers (do-it-yourself) and can provide pictorial diagnosis/elimination of probable defective components from clocksprings to modules including seatbelts. Incidentally they have a "Try it free" option with limited functionality. Of course, pls check for your particular year and model.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: Air Bag Indicator Light blinks on 1995 Lincoln Town Car

The blinking light is giving you a code and according to what you have listed that would be a code 25. However there is no code 25 for this system are you sure that it is not a 52 instead? If so then this code is for a loss of power to the module. Did you have battery go dead recently? If this is the case then you can clear it yourself. You will have to locate a gray 2 wire connector behind the glove box first. Here are the instructions to clear the code 52.

  1. Cycle the ignition switch to OFF and then to RUN.
  1. Observe air bag indicator prove-out (six ± two seconds) followed by diagnostic trouble code (52-85) flashing completely one time.
  1. Locate the Diagnostic "Trouble Code Clear" Connector located underneath the glove compartment (06010) containing Circuits 631 (T/R) and 57 (BK).
  1. Use a jumper wire to short Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK) or to another good ground. This short must be made after the diagnostic trouble code flashes completely one time, but before the warning light stays on continuously.
  1. Hold short until air bag diagnostic monitor tone sounds (approximately five seconds).
  1. Release short on Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK). This short must be released within 25 seconds after the diagnostic monitor tone sounds.

SOURCE: just had car dealership repair 1997 lincoln town air ride

Those Lincolns are notorious for that,I'd just get a set of coil springs out of a Crown Victoria cop car(junk yard)and swap them out.Done it many times, you can do it in about an hour, and they'll never leak down again.By the way, there's some O-rings in that system.Make some soapy water and spray every connection, just maybe you'll get lucky.

97 lincoln town car lost that smooth ride, every bump now feels real stiff.

As long as the Air ride springs are keeping the tail end up, then it is most likely time for new shock absorbers. I have found that the best ride is from the oem motorcraft brand. They can cost double that of an aftermarket brand but they last a good while.

Air suspension 93 lincoln town car

Not really.
The air bags act as replacement or extra coil springs to hold the car up.
You might be able to replace them with coil springs from a Crown Vic.
That may cause problems with the front air bags and the rest of the system.

Air ride leak back bags wont lift dont hear a leak tho please help to bumby for my 2 year oold son

Any errors on dash ? Get a manual ! Resolve any errors. Next check for sound that compressor is running...it should run after a few seconds of 'Key On-Engine Off'' if air bags have low pressure. It is located (underneath air filter... left front).. Check for defecctive air bags and their solenoid valves.
I found used replacements for all of these components on eBay.

1997 lincoln town car v8 The rear bags are down and doesn't rise. Air compressor goes on, possible bad sensor? please help

If the compressor is running then it is either rear bags are leaking or compressor is to weak.If you have a way to raise car up in the air or at least the rear when you get it up you will probably notice cracks in the bags at the bottom of the bag. A temporary fix is you can take a tube of silicone rubber and rub it over the cracks in the bottom of the bags, let it dry then see if it will raise back up.If it does then you can probably get by with just bags.
