Idles rough and smokes when first started
Worn valve guides allow oil to drain into the cylinders, causes blue smoke, fouled plugs will idle rough.
Coolant in the cylinders from a blown head gasket will cause white smoke.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Dear Smoker.......Sounds to a trained ear that this little guy is gonna need a fuel pressure regulator. It is basically dumping an excessive amount of fuel with the black smoke and all and once it gets warmed up it runs a little better cause it's out of the closed loop cycle. Check the fuel pressure regulator...pull the vacuum line off of it and if you can smell gas or see gas drippin out....that regulator is junk!!! The pressure regulator is on the fuel rail on top of the motor by the way...this should cure your woes.....if not..please get back to me... I HOPE I COULD HELP!!!

Black smoke means buring rich. Have the vehicle's ECU scanned for codes and do the repair the codes describe. I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say Mass Air Flow Sensor.(MAF)

i think you have a water leak maybe the head gasket is going bad any way gasoline produces water and is normal with cold weather.
