Toyota Camry wont start 1994 doesnt click over

This could be -

- dying battery. The most common cause. You might hear a click from the starter solenoid, or not, but no cranking.

- worn starter solenoid contacts. Here the battery is good, but no cranking.

- bad ground from the battery to the engine. Clean the terminals at both ends of this cable.

- defective starter or solenoid. Replace rather than repair, it is just as cheap.

1997 camry. After numerous attempts to turn the ignition key to start the car, it will start normally. Was told that the starter may have a dead spot on it.....change it. It does grunt several times before...

did you use a new starter or a used one,if it was a used one it or the solenoid may have a problem if its a new one it still could be a bad new starter or solenoid(it happens).you may have a dirty ground where the starter bolts to the motor that the surface may need to be cleaned,or it may be dirty wire connections at the starter solenoid or connections not tight(?).i assume when you had the battery tested at the shop you didn`t have them perform a starter test.some times it can take several attempts to catch the starter acting up.

How do i change a starter in a 99 camry v6? is the starter on top of the engine? easy to access?

I have a 1999 4 cyl Camry and the starter is on the top side of the driver side of the engine. The car was clicking when turning the key , no starter motor kicks in. The solenoid copper contacts just wear down over time and no longer made a good connection to turn the starter motor.

I was able to replace the copper contacts and plunger on the solenoid for $26 in parts. Parts received in 3 days from Nations Electric online. I have done this repair twice now, once on a 1999 Camry and again on a 1998 Chrysler T&C.

Why replace a good stater motor when all you need is new solenoid contacts? Just make sure you don't remove the cover of the starter motor itself! You will have a time getting it back on. See the video below.

Periodic no-start

You have worn contacts on the starter solenoid. This is a rather common problem. Attempting to start it 2-3 times moves the contact slightly, and then it starts, by making good contact. You have 2 options: 1) Replace the starter and 2) remove the starter, and have the contacts replaced by a starter rebuilding service. The 2nd option would be the cheapest rout, as opposed to a replacement starter. Hope this helps you out.
