The speedometer on my 1995 Honda Accord EX works sometimes and sometimes not. This started at about 180,000 miles and has been doing this for almost a year now. When not working, it stays at, or near 20mph. I think perhaps there's water in the spped sensor but can't say for sure, perhaps a broken speedometer cable? The engine light was on but hasn't been for a while, maybe it burnt out but I can't say for sure.

my 1995 honda accord speedometer is stuck at 19 miles an hour. goes up and down at rolling speed but never over 20  UNLESS i get lucky on the highway and i am going over 60mph   then it might kick in for like 3 to 5 minutes then quit again.  I have approv 180 miles  but am not sure because the odometer does not work UNLESS the speedodomer decides to work....ALSO my windows and sunroof work when they want to...if i cut the engine off and try after driving a short distance  it MIGHT come back on...

if you can help me because you know hondas or had ths same problem...please email me at [email protected]

    thanks in advance

P0501 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G22): Implausible Signal Possible Causes
  • Wiring/Connectors from/to Vehicle Speed Sensor (G22) faulty
  • Wiring/Connectors from Transmission Control Module (J217) to Engine Control Module faulty
  • Vehicle Speed Sensor (G22) faulty
  • Malfunctioning Left Front wheel speed sensor (in vehicles that don't use a physical G22 sensor)
Possible Solutions
  • Check Wiring/Connectors from/to Vehicle Speed Sensor (G22)
  • Check Wiring/Connectors from Transmission Control Module (J217) to Engine Control Module
  • Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (G22)
  • Check ABS Brakes for faults and diagnose malfunctioning Left Front wheel speed sensor if applicable

My engine light is on, my speedometer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't register, some times it bounces back and forth.

code p 500 refers to vehicle speed sensor (VSS) --circuit malfunction====causes ---wiring---VSS sensor---ECM
the engine light reports serious faults with both the engine and the transmission
I would go to an accredited auto transmission shop and have the VSS replaced or checked
The VSS drives the speedo, cruise control, gear changes ( reports to the transmission control module (TCM)

What is code p1791?

The code P1791 is referring to the electrical system on the vehicle. P1791-(Electrical) Circuit Malfunction. It means that you have a problem within the electrical circuit on that particular system. With Honda and many other vehicles it Usually Points Toward the (Vehicle Speed Sensor Range OR Performance Problem. You'll need to check the wiring for shorts or grounding out somewhere on the engine or frame. You'll also need to check the connector itself for broken wires or pin-push-outs. This problem could be the "Vehicle Speed Sensor" OR problems within the transmission itself. Hope this helps. Have an awesome day!

Got check engine light , vsc trac, and vsc off sensors. pepboys gave me scanned codes: po500 vehicle speed sensor and code po705 transmission range sensor/switch circuit malfunction. problems are:...

The VSC and trac will shut off with a P0500 or P0705 code, so diagnose those first. You left out year and engine, so we can't look up most common failures.

Codepo500&p1764

po500 is vehicle speed sensor,-this means that the speed sensor is bad or you have a wiring problem in the sensor curcuit. p1764 means that the sensor could be bad on transmission, it is manufacturer control transmission, fix the speed sensor and then maybe the light will go out for transmission sensor. best of luck carl,
