A/C freon disappears in less than 24 hours. I added dye but don't see any traces under the hood anywhere so I assume it must be the evaporator coil leaking but don't know the best way to get to it. Can someone tell me the best way to replace the evaporator coil? My vehicle is: 1999 Chevrolet Corvette C5 2.57L gas.

SOURCE: A/C Freon Loss under dash

I have the same problem with my Focus, except it does not leak out that fast. The evaporator coil probably has a hole in it. I took one out of a used car and found a bunch of leaves up against it which precipitated oxidation and its failure. The connections for the coil are just outside of the firewall. If you are thinking about changing the thing yourself, the first thing you need to know is that Ford only sells the whole heater assembly - it costs $525, and that it is a seriously painful operation to get it out. You have to remove the WHOLE dash and more. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 1995 Chevy Suburban blows cold once charged then hours later hot

Its a leak ...probably concealed like in an evap housing or rear air unit and lines (if it has that). Prob at this juncture I would remove all the freon and bring system into a vaccuum with a pump and see if it will hold vaccum for an extended period of time. A bad leak will not hold srong vacuum very long and much cheaper than wasting expensive and enviromental un0friendly refrigerants.

SOURCE: Told 2002 BMW 325i Evaporator Leaking

1- If they find the leak in compressor, then only compressor needs to be changedwhy others have to be changed unless they see the leak at each port of others. I don't beleive they can see the leak at evaporator since they didn't touch your dash board, Only if they guarantee to make it work with 770 on all others, it is a very good price it the dash board labor is price included, You can ask to clear it up. If total price is lower than #2 then go for it.

2- The 1600 price is the same as few years back. I like this place because because they tell you up front having to pull out the dash board, to get to the evaporator. You have to see how hard to get the evaporator out to work. Because refrigerant and labor are expensive in troubleshooting, they want to repacle all for sure. Good luck on making a good deal.

I would try replacing the control unit, they are prone to fail.

Yes a tube should go right down and out the bottom of the vehicle. Sometimes road debris cloggs the tube because it is near the rear wheel.

Dyes are pretty foolproof - you are probably not looking with a UV source where it is leaking. Common leaks that are very hard to find are at the evaporator core and connections to it (in the HVAC box).

Undefind Freon leak

that is a very fast leak. try using UV dye leak detector. color of this dye is bright green and will be show at the leak source. a UV light is also helpful so you can see it better. you can buy this at any auto parts with freon mixed with it, with this leak you should see oily trace at the leak area, don't forget to recharge compressor oil after your repair.

A/c will not hold freon and i cant find a leak. i tried dye to see if i could find the leak, nothin. i used stop leak, still nothin..what do i do now??

if you see no traces of the dye, then your leak is probally in the dash area in the evaporator core.did you look at the a/c water drain to see if you can find traces of the dye coming out of it? also does it have rear a/c? may want to look under the vehicle to may sure you don't have a hole in a line and check the rear evaporator also.

Air conditioner not cold

Do you hear a clicking sound with a/c on, coming from under the hood, if so that's a sign that the a/c system is low on freon, some time when freon is to low the a/c compr won't come on at all, the system has a low pressure switch that won't let the compr come, so the compr won't get damage due to low on freon, have it service (recharge) and have them put some dye in there also, that way they will be able to check for leaks, freon don't wast, there has to be a leak some where's, that's the reason for the dye, if it's a very small leak, they might not be able to find it then, but when it happens again, with a UV light they will be able to look for the stain from the dye, and that's where the leak is at.

My 1994 Lincoln Town Car keeps loosing freon but I can't find a leak anywhere

A good way is to have the system charged with freon and A/C dye which will glow a bright green/yellow at the source of the leak.
If no leak evidence under hood after this check then the A/C evaporator coil under the dash is the likely source of leak.
Sometimes the schrader valves (ports where the system is charged) can develop a leak. You could put a few drops of water in the valve and see if any bubbles appear.
