Door lock on toyota hi ace

Lock barrel has seized. Can I fix this just by using graphite powder and inserting into lock or, do I need to take the lock mechanism out and treat/lubricate it. What is the best thing to lubricate it with?

  • dmmcleod882 Apr 11, 2009

I have taken the lock barrel out and flushed it using a silicon spray with a nosel. The lock then works, but one of the pins sticks out (seizes) after about 10 - 20 mins (once the spray has dried out). DO I need to take this to a professional?

I recommend that you use WD-40. I have found that it works the best.

SIlicone sporay dfoes not loosen the condition that seizes the pins. Use WD-40, or a similar penetrating oil. If you want, you can remove the offending pin, and the lock will work. Your key will continue to work.

Why is my key just turning around in my drivers door on my vivaro van, and its locked , so cant get in.

It's possible that the locking mechanism in your Vivaro van's driver's door has become jammed or broken, causing your key to turn without unlocking the door. Here are a few things you can try to get your door unlocked:
  1. Try another key: If you have a spare key, try using it to unlock the door. If the spare key also doesn't work, then it's likely a problem with the locking mechanism.
  2. Spray lubricant into the lock: Sometimes, the locking mechanism can become jammed due to dirt or debris. Try spraying a lubricant such as WD-40 or graphite powder into the lock and then gently turning the key to see if this helps.
  3. Use a lock de-icer: If the weather is cold, the lock may be frozen. Try using a lock de-icer to thaw the lock before attempting to turn the key.
  4. Call a locksmith: If none of the above methods work, it's best to call a locksmith or a professional mechanic to help you gain access to your van.
In any case, it's important to get the issue fixed as soon as possible to avoid being locked out of your van again in the future.

How do i fix lock so key will fit in lock it only goes half way in lock

You could try a special key lube. For a lock like that you have to use a "graphite powder" lubricant. (do not use oil)
You can spray the lube on the key an keep inserting the key, or spray some in the lock also.

Hope this helps.

Hi, my Dad has a 1987 Pajero nd and the key slips out while its running, does he need a new barrell? Or is it repairable? He has cut a new key based on the old key but the same thing is happening? Looking...

it could be that the tumblers in the lock are ceased up, you could try putting some powdered graphite into the lock to see if it helps, put some on the edge of the key & put the key in the lock(work it in & out ) you may have to do this a few times, it may just fix the problem, if if does'nt the lock may have to be replaced.....hope this helps......cheers.

1993 Mercedes 280C Ignition key unlocks steering, but won't turn further. Can't start car. What could the be the problem.

Hi,
it could be a jammed barrel and key within the lgn lock. have you tried "rocking" the steering wheel gently, and at the same time try and turn the ign key?

Visit a lock smith or somewhere like an Ace Hardware store and get a small plastic squeezie bottle of powdered graphite. With a thin flatblade screwdrive or piece of wire, or something similar. Ease the ign key slot cover to one side and direct a few squirts of the powdered graphite into the ignition key switch. Next insert the ign key and GENTLY rotate the key back and forth, as if trying to operate and switch off the ignition. This will give the graphite a chance to penetrate the lock mechanism.

After approx 5mins, try and turn the key as if to start the car. If the barrel refuses to turn as before, then you will need to open up the ign lock and check the base of the barrel .

Do NOT use oil of any form in the lock. Oil attracts dirt like a magnet and will foul the ign lock.

I hope this helps you.

Good luck.

Ignition key wont turn

try using some graphite powder in the lock, put it on the edge of the key & push the key in & out of the lock, you may have to do it several times to get enough in the lock,if the lock has become seized this may help if not the lock may be damaged inside & may have to be replaced don't use WD 40 or the like as this only attracts dust & clogs the lock up more.......hope this helps......cheers

The ignition locks up and i cant turn the key to start the car

the lock tumbler pins may be sticking, buy some powdered Graphite lock cylinder lube from a hardware store, use only this special dry lube, any other type of oil based lube will ruin the ignition lock, spray the powdered graphite into the lock cylinder and insert the key and try to work the lock, do this several times and spray the powder in at least twice, if this doesn't free up the lock cylinder then you will need to have the ignition lock cylinder replaced.

Cannot turn key to unlock the door

What happens is ether the key or the tumblers in the lock get warn and don't move as far to release the lock barrel. Try some lock lub like powdered graphite and angling the key in different directions so as to move the tumblers in more.
