You're going to want to connect it (the ground) to a clean non-painted metal area such as a bolt head. That should work, just remember to connect the ground first then the positive.

Always connect the (+) first. Connect (-) to any good solid metal bracket on engine. Keep clear of belts and pulleys. (all answers should be this easy!!)

If you found the postive then it should be not problem finding the negative. it is on the other side of the battery.
or you can just attached the negative jumper to the car frame.

If getting a jump of which do I hook up first positive or negative

When Connecting jump leads ALWAYS Positive first, (Red), Negative last, (Black).
When Removing jump leads ALWAYS Negative first, (Black) and Positive last, (Red).
ALWAYS make sure you DON'T touch the negative to the positive at any time! (Loads of sparks and you risk damaging the battery).
Safest way I have found is this.
With the engine on BOTH vehicles turned OFF. Connect up to the flat battery first, then connect to the good battery. ONLY start the vehicle with the good battery. Wait 2 or 3 minutes to let some charge cross to the dead battery then start the vehicle with the dead battery.
The dead battery will need to be fully charged as soon as possible.

Jump starting a battery under passenger seat

there should be jump start lugs inside the hood area. At least the positive. The negative goes to the engine either way. If you are not sure, check the owners manual. they will pinpiont it. Without knowing your year, I cant look it up.

How to jump start my 2005 Pontiac Montana?

Using jumper cables :
1. Connect one red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of running car's battery and the other end red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of the dead car's battery .
2. Connect one black clamp to the negative terminal (-) of running car's battery and the other end black clamp to the negative terminal (-) of the dead car's battery.
Basically... (+) to (+)...and... (-) to (-)
3. Crank up the car needing the jump.
4. Once car is jumped and running...remove clamps in reverse order.

Using battery pack: Connect in the same fashion as above.

JaBLussier@Hanover .comWhere do jumper cables go for charging a battery on a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville?

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
OK the best way to do this so you dont mess up the electronics in the vehical are as follows
First connect the 2 cables to the vehicle's battery red on positive and black on negative..
Now on the other vehicle the one needing charging. place the red cable on the positive battery post and take the black (negative) cable and place it on the negative battery post
now make sure the key is turned off in the vehicle that needs charging
now start the other vehicle first and leave run for about 30- 45 seconds then attempt to start the vehicle that is needing a charge once it has started quickly remove the cables off of the vehicles and you are good to go simply leave the car running to let the battery charge for at least 10 min ok
Hope this is very helpful for you please do me a favor and give this solution a rating this rating helps our asker's get the best possible solutions
Best regards Michael

Please tell me where are the positive and negetive ends of the battery for a jump start, my batttery is dead Dr.S.V.Anand

If you can locate the battery, telling the positive from the negative terminal easy.

Inspect the terminals closely; the positive terminal has a 'plus' (+) sign near it. This terminal is also larger than the other (usually).

Similarly the negative terminal has a 'minus' (-) near it.

Also visit this page for more information on jump starting.

I'm trying to jump a battery using a pontiac g5. where should i put the negative clamp of the jumper cable? the battery only has a positive post.

Place the negative cable on the frame of the car to ground it. It's best to do this even when there is a negative post present to protect the car and the alternator.
