When I am accelerating from a dead stop or accelerating on the freeway my car starts to have problems accelerating. Once I get to 3k rpm the car will feel like the engine is hesitating. It will continue to accelerate but then the check engine light will start flashing. Once I let off of the gas pedal the check engine light goes off completely so I can't even get a code since the computer only logs a code if the check engine light stays on. The dealer suggested it might be a vacuum problem but all my hoses and connections look ok. I have cleaned the mass air intake sensor.

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: Engine running really rough...whine sound when it isn't.
The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug, plug wire, coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.
SOURCE: Acceleration problme
Driving it like this cause exhaust to push back through the EGR Valve, and it will cause the air sensors to all burn up and eventually burn through the intake plenum. I had to put $500 in parts MAF, MAP, EGR, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Intake Plenum, and the other air sensor that is not held on with tamper proof torques, and the converter, now it is running great!
SOURCE: Changed Mass Air Flow sensor, CEL still displays problem
it almost sounds like a fouled fuel injector. this is a tricky problem because it involve so many different operations. the maf is used to deliver fuel and the o2 sensor tells how much. there are 2 o2 sensors one before cat 1 after. mabey check these out visually. the computer should pick these sensors up if there bad. is this a supercharged engine? ill try to come up with some other ideas for you soon.
SOURCE: CODE PO102 after Mass Air Flow Sensor replaced
Most faultcodes don't disappear automaticly, the have to be 'reset' manually after repairing. It sounds like the code didn't get erased after replacing the MAF. You could try to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes (disconnect and reconnect the negative (-) pole), which should erase the code.
Whenever the engine light still comes back on after that, there probably still is some (other) problem ...
