Interior lights of my 1997 s.suburban worked intermittently and then stopped all together. Now the dash lights won't come on consistenly. We changed the fuse, but it didn't help. The tailgate lights on the same fuse and don't work consistently either. Help!

Yes, they will not come on at all. Now, you are talking about the dimmer switch on the interior of the car, where the light switch is?

  • harrisd Mar 27, 2009

Yes, I tried that long ago. There seems to be a fuse or short somewhere. Is there anyplace else to look other that the fuses?

  • harrisd Mar 27, 2009

Yes, but not with me. I put the car in the shop yesterday evening, as the ignition didn't make a sound when I tried to start it. I appreciate you help. We'll see what the mechanic has to say. D

do you have the owners manual? since the problem is affecting your tail lights I would have a look at the headlight switch it too is in the circut.

yes, when you rotate or slide it up or down which ever type you have, it turns on and off the interior lights, as well as varies the intensity of the dash lights

The 20 amp stop/haz fuse keeps blowing. I put a new one in but after using the brakes 18 to 24 times the fuse is blown. I noticed that the fus/circuit breaker box under the hood does not have a brake lamp...

Not easy to diagnose. Most probable cause is an intermittent short in the power wiring between the hazard module under the dash and the brake and center stop lights, or a problem with either that module or brake light switch on the pedal. I would start by inspecting the socket wiring and interior of the sockets on the rear light modules.

Hope you can read that? Check the fuses for those relays, the two on the right. Not only check the fuses, use a test lite to check for voltage on the fuse circuit. Check the four fuses on the left, also, some are hot all the time, some go hot with the key on.
The top two wires at relay is the load side. The bottom two wires are on the control side of relay. The control side needs voltage and ground. Your gem module controls ground. Sometimes when battery voltage is lost, some modules may need to be reprogrammed? I don't have that info. In my opinion, clicking is either intermittent voltage or ground. Right now I'm thinking ground, controlled by the gem model. I could be wrong?

02 Intrepid interior lights intermittent

the dimmer switch may be going bad--at night do you may see a change in the dash lighting as well --maybe even going off all together---sometimes adjusting the dimmer switch may give a temporary fix -the switch controls dash and dome lights and is a part that does wear with use

Anti-lock brakes come on just before I stop.

It might be a ALB sensor. Did you check to see if the sensor is operational? Its the cheapest place to check.
