I believe the remote start on my 2002 Mercury Villager is causing problems with starting w/ the key. At times it just start as normal. Other times the is nothing no power, but when I open and shut the door the gauges move up and back down. Then the horn blows and everything comes back on and starts right up, but sometimes it doesn't.
The driver door module check the plug and check for corrosion in it and the plug the module is on the driver door under the door panel also do you have keyless entry that keypad could be shot a lot of people punch there #S in using there key which puts a hole in it letting water and outside air come in which messes it up so you know not me

check/replace the starter relay switch in the relay box under the hood. The relay box is located on the front right of the engine compartment. easy fix, inexpensive part if that is the problem.

mcdevito75 her, My immediate thought is a dead or weak battery, but it could be a bad starter also, here"s what to do, inside the car turn the key 1 notch to the on position, note the dash lights, now turn the key to start and note the dash lights again, do they go dim?? if they do you most likely have a weak battery, if the dash lights do not dim, open the door so the interior light comes on, any interior light, try to start the car, if the interoir light dims, you have a weak battery, if it does not dim with the key all the way to start, check and clean the battery connections, and suspect a bad starter. Any electrical appliance can go bad very quickly. Also if the battery is2 years old, replace it.
