2007 r=350 mercedes benz changed both batteries and now it won't shift out of park, could this be the ecm and if so will a replacement have to be reprogramed

Could be the shifter interlock? Not familiar with your vehicle, but am pretty sure that it has a shifter interlock that prevents the shifter from moving out of park without the brake being depressed.

07 honda fit auto trnas not going into park. I ALREADY DISCONNECT THE SHIFT CABLE OUT OF SHIFTER AND SHIFT LEVER SEEMS TO MOVE FREELY, BUT THE CABLE SEEMS TO STUCK, HOOKED IT BACK ON AND SHIFTED BACK

Shift interlock ! an key lock It's a safety system that won't allow you to shift out of park unless you foot is pushing on the brake pedal , plus it won't allow you to put it into park or turn off the ignition if vehicle is moving . It's electical , brake switch , lock solenoid , may also have a body module of some kind for control . It may have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . The best way to diagnose this would be to buy a repair manual so you read up on how it works .What I said above is just a general explanation of the system . You should also look at a wiring diagram .

Where can i find a shift lock solenoid for my 2002 monte carlo ss? i have searched for days on internet and cant find anything.

just because you disconnected the shift cable from the trans doesnt mean the car is now out of gear. The interlock switch is located next to the shifter in the center console. Remove the bezel around the shifter and you should see a small tab that reads (shift interlock) pull it out of its holder and the shifter should once again move

Transmission won,t go out of park

Nearly all the new cars have a Park-Interlock System (with an Auto Transmission)
The Key is on - usually engine running
The Brake Pedal applied
Then shifter is Un-Locked
There could be a problem with the interlock system
Also be aware that if you have the vehicle parked on an incline - that can put the transmission linkage in a bind making it almost impossible to shift out of park. To prevent this last issue from happening - AWAYS apply the parking brake when parking on an incline. Let the parking brake support the weight of the vehicle - not the transmission park paw gear.

Sometime gear stuck in parking mood only.thanks, Frank

if you are on a slope or hard into a gutter and put the vehicle into park there is locking mechanism in the trans called a parking pawl if you have weight against the parking pawl lever such as a slope or into a gutter ,it will be very hard to get out of park because you have all the weight of your vehicle against the lever what you need to do is pull the hand brake on first so the weight of the vehicle is held by the hand brake ,then put it into park problem solved. regards agwbk

My 2008 chevrolet impala gear shift is stuck in park. After working and wiggling it a lil, it shifts into gear. This started last night. When leaving work it was fine. After i picked my son up from...

This is a common issue on '06+ Impalas, and is most frequent when parking on an incline. It can be minimized by engaging the parking brake before putting the car in Park.

Your brake light switch system controls the shift interlock system, you'll need to check that system first.
Could be a shift interlock swith has gone faulty or the linkage is out of adjustment.

Check that link out, could be a solenoid issue or it could be that a wiring harness is going bad/fried:

96 F250 can't shift out of park

NOTE: Your vehicle is equipped with a

brake-shift interlock feature. This

feature prevents you from shifting

from P (Park) unless you have the

brake pedal depressed. (The ignition

must be in the ON position.) If you

cannot shift from P (Park) with the

brake pedal depressed:

1. Apply the parking brake.

2. Remove the key.

3. Insert the key and rotate one position
clockwise (ignition in the OFF position).

4. Apply the brake pedal and shift to N

(Neutral). (If the vehicle is shifted to P

(Park), you must repeat the previous steps.)

5. Start the vehicle.

If you need to shift out of P (Park) by using the

alternate procedure described above, it is

possible that a fuse has blown and that your

brakelamps may also not be functional.

WARNING

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL

YOU VERIFY THAT THE BRAKELAMPS
ARE WORKING.

check fuse 13 based on the attached diagram.

If this fuse is bad replace it. If it is not bad, blows again, or continues to be stuck in park then you need a new brake interlock switch that can be found on the brake pedal up underneath the dash.mustang_guru_2.jpg
