1984 jaguar xj6 alternator not charging can anyone help?

I replaced my old alternator because it was over charging and so i put a new one in but it is a remanufactured one, and now the thing only charges when it wants to, and the new alternator will charge the battery for about 3 or 4 minutes then the voltage will drop to like 12.11then it will go up to 13.40 volts then drop again then continue to do the same but the red battery indicator light on the dash won't turn on when the voltage drops. everything is connected the belt is firm on the alernator pulley what can it be? please someone help......

    unit not charging. Single pole wire to alternator is not attached. What color is it and what is the gauge of the wire?

Battery dies on 1997 jaguar xj6 with new alternator
You have a draw on the battery. Short circuit somewhere in the electrical. Must use OHM meter and start checking wires, Start near the alternator and ignitoin work away from there. A quick look over all your wires to see if there are any noticable cuts or frays may save you some time if your lucky. Jags are known for electrical problems.

1997 Jaguar XJ6 battery light on, I was told battery is good and so is alternator. Still on.....
The battery light has nothing to due with a bad battery, it indicates the alternator is not producing enough voltage to keep the battery charged up, this can be for many reasons.

FOLLOW ALTERNATOR WIRES AND BATTERY POSITIVE FEED WIRE.IT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR BOX.CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE.IF YOU HAD WIRES TO BURN AND MELT.MORE LIKELY YOU HAVE A BLOWED FUSE.

I cannot find the freon valve in my 1984 jaguar xj6. can you please help me locate it?
U can't charge the AC at home on this model, there is no low side charging port, the system is charged through the high side port which requires special equipment to do this service, any automotive AC shop can do this recharge service, i assume your system has been retro-fitted to the new R134 Refrigerant, if not that will need to be done as well.

you'll have to check the alternator to be sure .Because if it is not charging it means that the current goes in. But it does not go around the alternator . It means that there is a wire from the coil that is not connected .You should disconnect the alternator to your car for inspection.

Expect you have it running by now, as I see this was posted 2 March ?

If not......

Charge up your battery, and heavy discharge test, suspect you have short in the plates.

If OK, jump start with a set of proper heavy duty jump leads.
