1984 Jaguar XJ Questions & Answers
What is involved in replacing the right and left hand fuel solenoid valves in a 1984 Jaguar XJ6?
this is a series 3 i presume, it has 2 fuel tanks 1 in each rear wing, the tank that you have switched to take fuel from using your dash switch is controlled by a y valve in the boot, the excess fuel has to be returned to the same tank that it has come from if one of these valves fail it remains open and all the unused fuel goes back the one with the faulty valve that tank full or not.the valves are easy to replace remove rear wheel and acess panel 4 screws and the valve is there but make sure you are replacing the correct side or replace both
1984 Jaguar XJS HE, will
Where the fuel pump inlet sucks gas from the fuel tank, there is usually a little mesh bag protecting the pump from sucking in particles from the fuel tank. You may want to check and make sure it hasn't come loose or has a hole in it allowing you fuel pump to **** in dirt. When your pump is off, the suction goes away allowing the dirt to go back into the tank. When it's on, it'll **** the dirt back up causing loss of fuel.
Alternator belt,,where does the belt
Hello robberdog,
I've made an assumption the you have the 4.2L and not the 5.3L engine. The belt routing is quite different between the two.
Below is a diagram, hope this helps.

1984 jaguar HE backlights wont work. thought it
fuses for those lights are under the glove box on the passenger side... Even though they look ok... replace the fuse for that circuit... if it fixes great otherwise it may be the fuse block... not an easy fix.
1984 jaguar xj6 left lights on for a couple
you need to make sure you have full battery voltage, turning the engine takes more power than a radio or lights, you can try having someone jump your battery to see if that helps,if it starts give it a good run without alot of lights and stuff on to recharge battery
I purchased a 1984 XJS. The battery went dead, so
any battery that sits has the potential to drain. when storing your vehicle, remove the negative terminal from the battery. this should aid in keeping the battery alive. excellent vehicle. enjoy driving it. by the way, make sure you get the proper battery for either the L6 or the V12 motor. it makes a world of difference in the long run.
1989 XJS V12 furl problem
Obviously, fuel and oil should never be in the same spot at the same time. You have a dead cylinder and maybe a stuck-open injector. The black smoke is from a too-rich fuel mix, so the cheap things to look for are in the fuel injection system. Look at the fuel pressure regulator as well. Good luck, and don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure before you do any work on fuel inj. engines!
1998 jaguar vanden plas keeps cutting off and engine light is on
Hi Jelnora
Not having your oil changed is not the problem.
Having a low oil level can give you problems though.
So I hope you have been checking the level since your last service ?
Have you had any warning messages or codes flashing up ?
Let me know.
Best Wishes
John.
