Replace ignition system, start with coils, and coil pack housing under engine top cover. The plastic coil cover may be arking out. some people will tell you to look for "spider webs" on the plastic cover, don't you believe it!!! They go bad quite ofter and cost $50 a shot. also check your plugs, ONLY use autolite or ac delco REGULAR plugs, avoid bosch AT ALL COSTS.

SOURCE: 2002 alero 2.2L

There are many things that can cause this problem and it would take too long to try to diagnose without the proper equipment, I.E. OBD2 Scanner. There are just too many engine controls that could cause a misfire. You will have to take it into a shop for an engine diag. This will probably cost you in the range of 150-200, this price does not include the solution, that is entirely seperate. A scanner needs to be hook up to zero in on the problem area, and from there the problem can be tested appropriately.

To much gas going thru the exhaust. probably the #2 miss fire. Before you change plugs, make sure you have fire to cylinder #2. You could have a bad coil or ignition module. Also check the condition of the plug wire. You can change these if you like , but it may not be necessary.

Idling #5 and #7 miss fire. holding it at 2000 rpms makes all 8 miss fire. its running really rich and the only code its showing is P0300 which is engine miss fire. have replaced plugs wires cap and...

When there is an engine misfire it could be gas or spark related. Or, the oxygen sensor may not be operating correctly, which controls fuel supply.

If there is a 'random misfire' then it could be an oxygen sensor causing the problem, as well, causing a rich mixture.

Good luck on this repair.

2002 LandRover Freelander HSE- Turns but doesn't start/fire up

It does sound like electrical problems. When it does this you need to know is it not getting fire, fuel or both. The alarm could be a problem, engine control, or a simple ground strap loose. Make sure you battery terminals are clean and connections are tight. The last time i saw this happen it turned out to be a wiring issue because someone had tapped into the factory alarm harness and the wiring was done very poorly which was causing the problem.

The problem sounds like an upper intake gasket. common on 6 cylinder models.
