Dischargeing battery when not in use

I Have a BMW525TD 1995 have replaced the alternator and replaced battery both are new starts goes no probs charges battery no probs but is dischargeing battery over night when left with no keys or anything on , have discovered that the fuel pump is running without the keys in the ignition so thinking this might be the problem took the fuse out but alas still runs battery down am at a loss as to what might be the problem at present i disconnect the battery when am not useing the car

    Nay nothing as silly as that wish it was, best of it is all warning lights etc are working perfectly when engine is working its when you switch off the engine you can hear the diesel pump running then if you take the fuse out it stops but some thing is causeing this to happen as it should not be running when ignition is switched off and key taken out of ignition barrel ,its possible to be one of the relays but which one as their is several i unfortunatly dont have a wireing diagram fot it .

Hi,there have to be something runing at all times,check if the brake light is not staying on or the trunk or hood light,radio ,amp ,ect....

Usually caused by failed alternator. Remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts store.

get a12 volt test light (autozone or any part store) . disconnect negative battery. connect light between negative terrminal of batteryand negitive cable if light lights something is useing battery power remove bulbs lighting hood and trunk until test light does not light disconect anything electrical until the test light goes out. if you disconnect alternater and it goes out replace alternator. if this was helpful please leave good feed back

are the alternator and battery new or second hand,im gonna assume second hand just based on price etc,the battery can b checked to see if its holding a charge independently of the alternator,vice versa the alternator can be checked to see if it is providing a charge,so common donominator is the belt,is is tight enough and check the earth strap at battery for rust or greenish powder if so wire brush and clean,it cant b a big prob

Daughter called me ..car wont start. checked battery at Autozone...it is good. someone stopped to help them and bang on startere and it starts up. Bad starter. Starter replaced. Next day daughter...
it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

Have the alternator tested,remove it,and take it to the auto parts store,if it test good,replace the computer,the voltage regulator is in the computer.

if you can charge the battery and drive it for a while then sounds like the altenator has failed and is not re-charging the battery, good way to test is to charge the battery, start the car and turn the light on, if everything is dimm or the motor dies there is little to no charge voltage, and will require altenator work

Battery won't hold a charge after sitting for a while
First tell your husband to by a test light! They last for ever! LOL
The prob is most likely the alternator. Remove the negative battery cable, then the power cable at the alternator. With his 'new' test light, check for power between the negative battery post and the cable removed from the alternator. If the light comes on, the alternator has a diode prob. If you want you can also take it for a drive, then remove the battery cable, let everything cool over night, reconnect the cable, wait for about half an hour, feel the alternator for warmth.
