Its easy, look down behind the headlight assembly and where the wires go into the back of the headlight is the bulb. Its been a while, but you just unplug the connector and the bulb is held in by a locking ring or clip, I can't remember which.
The bulb is removed from the rear. Simply remove the bulb and install the new one and reconnect the connector.
Just don't touch the glass on the new bulb, because the oils in skin can create hot spots on the bulb.

Dirt inside my headlight

  • Open the hood of your Honda Civic, and identify the headlight assembly that has the dirt inside of it. Depending on the year of your Civic and side of the headlight, you may need to move the power steering reservoir to gain access to the light assembly.
  • 2 Squeeze the clips on both sides of the headlight assembly to release the headlight connectors. Use your fingers to loosen the headlight, and pull the small plastic tab to loosen the rubber gasket from the frame.
  • 3 Unplug the wiring harness from the back of the bulb. Twist the bulb, to remove it from the headlamp assembly.
  • 4 Locate, and remove, the screws that hold the headlight casing in place. Once the screws have been removed, gently guide the headlight casing from the location.
  • 5 Inspect the assembly under a bright light, identifying any cracks that may be in the casing. If there is a crack, use a silicone sealant to seal the crack.
  • 6 Dry the assembly, using a towel and or hairdryer.
  • 7 Replace the assembly back into your Honda Civic, and secure it by replacing the screws you removed.
  • 8 Replace the rear gasket where the bulb is inserted with a new gasket. Insert the bulb, and twist it into place.
  • 9 Reattach the bulb wiring harness.
  • 10 Turn the lights on, and re-aim the light assembly. good job your done

How to change the headlight on passenger side of honda civic 2003

Well, forgive the generic response.. I have done loads of Honda... but not a 2003 Civic...So, here we go..

Open hood. Locate top headline tab. Remove screw that secures tab.
Next, locate nut on backside of headlight assembly - remove it (it should be a round fastener that has a hex nut top.
Headlight should pull away from chassis.
Connecting cable has a lock tab that must be pressed. If you just pull out on the cable assembly - a large, round (2.5 to 3 inches in diameter) water proofing shroud will come out of the headlight assembly - bulb and all. You will still need to remove the cable connector from this assembly.

Install a new headlight assembly in the reverse manner.

Replace driver side lowbeam headlight on a Honda 2005 Civic EX

    1. 1 Locate and remove the power steering reservoir from behind the driver's side headlight assembly. Pull straight upward, sliding it off its mount and set aside for access to the headlight bulb. Make sure you keep it upright so it does not spill.
    2. Step 2 Locate and remove the electrical connector from the back of the bulb. Depress the locking tab to release it and pull the connector down, removing it from the bulb.
    3. Step 3 Turn the bulb counterclockwise ¼-turn then pull the bulb straight out of the headlight assembly. Insert a new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn it ¼-turn clockwise to lock it in place.
    4. Step 4 Install the electrical connector by plugging it into the bottom of the bulb. Push the connector in until the locking tab engages the bulb, securing it to the bulb.
    5. Step 5 Slide the power steering pump reservoir onto its mount.

No low beams (both Sides) but high work

There is a recall on the headlight switch for 2001 civic (and perhaps many others.) This is a safety recall and it affects all vehicles regardless of whether you are the original owner.

But beware when bringing your civic into the dealership to have the work done - They don't particulary like doing recall work without hitting you in the wallet on the way out. I brought mine to Silko Honda in Raynham, MA and they replaced the switch - only to tell me I still needed head lamp bulbs at $35 per side (and with no Vasiline to go along with the deal, if you know what I mean..)

I took the car home, removed the steering column cover, disconnected the directional plug and cleaned the contacts (the one for the low beam was a bit dirty, interestingly.) After performing this tedium, low and behold: My headlights worked ($70 for bulbs my A$$.)

So in short, first get to the directional plug and clean the contacts. You may not even need to have the switch changed out. But if you do, wear a chastity belt before going into the stealership. They have one goal and one goal only: To drain your pocket as much as they can.

1999 Honda Civic "DRIVER" Side Headlight Bulb Replacement.. I've been on the net and the solutions say: "Just Unplug the Bulb and pull it out" Obviously, they haven't "SEEN" a 1999 Honda Civic Driver Side...

Okay, 1999 Honda Civic, Headlight (Driver Side). If you haven't fixed this or just wanna know, this is what you have to do. The power steering pump is in the way of you getting to the bulb. You will need to remove the back tube of the power steering reservoir, the one closest to the cabin of the car. Plug this tube with a rag, quickly as fluid starts flowing immediately. Pull the res up and out of the holder it sits in. Now on to the light. Grab a hold of the black plastic clip (with wires) on the sides, and pull the electronic clip out of the light. Gently pull the rubber tabs for the weather guards, and you should now see your old bulb. There is a metal clip that holds the bulb in place, gently release this metal clip, being careful to keep it in place. Makes the job easier when you put it together. Your old bulb can now be easily pulled out. I take the bulb at this point and plug it into the clip and test the lights. This assures me that the bulb is busted and a bigger job isn't ahead of me. Once confirmed, I place the new bulb in the headlight bezel, careful to not touch glass. Clip the metal hold down clip back in place. Put the Rubber grommet back in place, clip on the electrical wire clip. Test the headlight. Put power steering tubes back in place, place the res back on the holder, and done. The book and this site: http://www.andrewdothay.net/blog/2007/11/24/1998HondaCivicHeadlightReplacement.aspx helped me a lot!

How do i replace a head light in a 2003 honda civic

Civic 03 - driver's side light: pop the hood, find the resevoir canister that obstructs the headlight assembly. You can acutally just grab this canister and pull upward - it is fixed on a rail and does not requre tools to release. Pull the cannister up and place it somewhere out of the way of you getting to the headlight. The cannister is attached to a hose which won't give you too much leeway but just enough to get it out of the way. Now get a flashlight and look inside the hood where the headlight assembly is. You will see/find a rubber ring that is about 3 inches in diameter that protects the headlight. Connected through the center of this ring is the electronic cable that powers the headlight. First unplug the connector cable and place somewhere out of the way. Then remove the rubber ring. It has a tab that you can grab and pull on. The ring will have some resistance so just pull hard. Now is the tricky part. Look at where the headlight is positioned. There is a metal wire clip that is holding the bulb in position. This clip can be a real pain to release. The trick is to push on this clip in toward the bulb. Push moderately hard - while pushing the clip in, you must then kind of move the clip to ( I cant remember which way) to the right or left? Sorry cant remember. But, as soon as you push it toward the right direction, the clip will release and fold down away from the bulb. The bulb will be free at this point and you can just pull it out of the headlight assembly. Put the new bulb in, fold up the metal clip and again push it in and wiggle it around left/right to make sure it is clipped in place and holding the bulb securely. Then put the rubber ring back in place making sure to allow the prongs of the bulb to stick through the center of the ring. Then plug the electronic cable to the bulb's prongs, replace the cannister on the rail and you are done. Might want to test the light before replacing everything... The driver's side is the same BUT.... the battery is in the way. Hopefully you have the code to unlock your stereo after the battery has been disconnected. If you have the code, remove the battery and go through the process outlined above for the driver's side light. If you do NOT have the code, what I did was have my dad's civic on and running, then we connected my battery to his with cables (so my car would not lose power thus causing my stereo to lock up permanently) remove battery while attached to cables, (carefully yes) and do your thing. I do NOT recomment this technique but it does work. Phew! Good luck!

2003 Honda Civic Headlights burn out in six Months?

Actually, I would call your local Honda dealership to see if there have been any recalls made for this reason in the past. If Honda hasn't issued a recall, it's possible that you have a short in your wiring somewhere. Either that, or when you're installing the new bulbs, is there a possibility that you're leaving fingerprints on the bulbs? This will cause the oil from your fingers to heat up on the bulb, causing the bulb to burn hotter than originally intended. This has been known for causing many similar problems in many similar vehicles, especially when the headlight bulbs in question are halogen. Hope this helps and have a great day!
